Polish Armed forces commander empowered to allow NATO forces into Poland

WARSAW, Sep. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Polish defense minister Mariusz Blaszczak has empowered the Polish Armed Forces General Commander to allow the stationing of NATO and NATO-allied forces on Polish territory, local media reported Wednesday.

According to Polish Press Agency (PAP), the decision is mainly addressed to NATO and NATO-aligned forces and forces from countries participating in NATO's Partnership for Peace program. Foreign units stationed in Poland will not be able to exceed 500 people.

Airstrikes kill over 60 militants in Afghanistan

KABUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan Air Force in chasing militants have conducted series of sorties in the southern and northern provinces, killing more than 60 armed insurgents and injuring scores of others over the past 24 hours, officials said Thursday.

In the latest waves of airstrikes, the Afghan fighting aircrafts pounded a Taliban hideout in the outskirts of Tirin Kot, the capital of the southern Uruzgan province in the wee hours of Thursday, killing 17 insurgents and injuring countless others, an army spokesman in the southern region Mohammad Sadeq Eisa said.

Indian SC extends house arrest of rights activists till Sep 17

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday extended the house arrest of five rights activists who were arrested in connection with the Koregaon-Bhima violence case till September 17.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud adjourned the hearing on the plea filed by historian Romila Thapar and four others to September 17 after it was submitted that senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who is representing the petitioners, was busy in another court.

Media trial of caes can't be allowed; press needs to draw a line: SC

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) The press should "draw a line" and strike a balance as media trial of cases cannot be allowed, the Supreme Court said Tuesday while hearing the Muzaffarpur shelter home case in which several women were allegedly raped and abused.

The apex court, which was dealing with a plea challenging a Patna High Court order restraining the media from reporting on the investigation into the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, said the issue was not "simple".
