India: Ombudsman reinstates Azharuddin as HCA President

Indian Deepika reclaims world no.1 ranking after gold medals at WC Stage 3

Paris, Jun 28 (PTI) Star Indian archer Deepika Kumari on Monday regained the number one position in global rankings following her hat-trick of gold medals at the World Cup Stage 3 here.

The 27-year-old from Ranchi, who had achieved the top spot for the first time in 2012, on Sunday claimed gold medals in three recurve events -- women's individual, team and mixed pair.

"This is going to take Deepika to the number one spot in the world rankings on Monday," World Archery had tweeted on its official handle after Deepika's gold rush.

Qatar's world 400m bronze medallist Haroun dies in car crash

27 June 2021; MEMO: Qatari sprinter Abdalelah Haroun, who won the bronze medal in the 400 metres event at the 2017 World Championships, died on Saturday in a car accident, the global governing body of athletics said citing media reports, says Reuters.

He was 24 years old. The former world junior champion had been hoping to qualify for this year's Tokyo Olympics, though he was undergoing rehabilitation following an injury.

No anti-Ronaldo plan for Belgium vs. Portugal at Euro 2020

India: Haryana to give Rs 6 crore to Tokyo Olympics gold winner

Chandigarh, Jun 23 (PTI) Haryana government on Wednesday announced that sportspersons from the state who win gold medal in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics would be given a cash amount of Rs 6 crore.

The state government will give the silver winners Rs 4 crore while the bronze medallists will get Rs 2.50 crore.

The state sports minister Sandeep Singh announced this while interacting with Olympic medallists on the occasion of International Olympic Day here, along with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

India: Sprint icon Milkha Singh dies of Covid-19

Chandigarh, Jun 18 (PTI) Indian sprint legend Milkha Singh died on Friday after a month-long battle with COVID-19, during which he lost his former national volleyball captain wife Nirmal Kaur to the same ailment.

The Padma Shri awardee was 91 and is survived by his golfer son Jeev Milkha Singh and three daughters.

"He breathed his last at 11.30pm," a family spokesperson told PTI.

India: Asian Games gold-winning boxer Dingko Singh dies of post Covid complecations

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) Asian Games gold medal-winning former boxer Dingko Singh, who inspired a generation of Indian pugilists with his swashbuckling ring craft and flamboyant personality, died on Thursday after a long battle with liver cancer.

He was 42 and had been fighting the disease since 2017. He is survived by his wife Babai Ngangom, a son and a daughter.

During his battle with cancer, the former bantamweight (54kg) boxer's health woes were compounded by a bout of jaundice and COVID-19 last year.

England bowler Ollie Robinson suspended for abusive tweets

London, Jun 7 (AP-PTI) England fast bowler Ollie Robinson was suspended from international cricket pending an investigation into discriminatory tweets he posted from 2012-13.

Robinson will not be available for the second test against New Zealand starting Thursday, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Sunday.

Robinson made his test debut in the first match of the series at Lord's, taking seven wickets across New Zealand's two innings and also hitting 42 in England's first innings.
