Australia: Crowd capacity limited to 25 per cent for third India-Australia Test in Sydney

Sydney, Jan 4 (PTI) The crowd limit for the third Test between India and Australia, beginning here from Thursday, has been reduced to 25 per cent of the SCG's seating capacity on advice of the New South Wales government after fresh COVID-19 cases were recorded in the city.

Approximately 9500 people would be allowed to watch the game with the series currently locked at 1-1 following India's remarkable comeback in Melbourne. The SCG has a seating capacity of about 38,000.

India: Maha govt allows water sports, amusement parks to resume

Mumbai, Dec 23 (PTI) The Maharashtra government has allowed water sports as well as activities like boating and entertainment/amusement parks to resume as part of phase-wise easing of lockdown restrictions in the state.

A government circular, dated December 21, said all norms of social distancing and precautions to check the spread of COVID-19 will have to be followed during these activities.

It said water sports and other activities like boating will be allowed outside the COVID-19 containment zones.

Qatar unveils fourth 2022 World Cup stadium

19 Dec 2020; MEMO: Qatar inaugurated the fourth of eight 2022 World Cup venues, the Al Rayyan Stadium, when the country hosted the Amir Cup final between Al-Sadd and Al-Arabi on Friday, Reuters reports.

Al-Sadd, coached by former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez, beat Al-Arabi 2-1 to lift their 17th Amir Cup title after Algeria forward Baghdad Bounedjah scored twice.

"It is a wonderful football stadium," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

Cricket Australia bans mini bar in hotel rooms for Big Bash

Sydney, Dec 4 (PTI) Players taking part in the upcoming Big Bash League will not have the mini bar at their disposal in hotel rooms with Cricket Australia aiming to minimise interaction between staff and cricketers to reduce the risk of any COVID-19 infections.

A "BBL Hub" will be created at the hotels for all stakeholders of the league to minimise exposure to the outside world during the league starting December 10.

India: Kapil Dev discharged from hospital

New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) India's first World Cup winning-captain Kapil Dev was on Sunday discharged from a city hospital, two days after undergoing angioplasty following a heart attack.

The 61-year-old complained of chest pain on Thursday following which he was taken to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute's emergency department.

He is doing fine now.

India: Cricketer Kapil Dev suffers heart attack, undergoes angioplasty

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) India's first World Cup-winning cricket captain Kapil Dev suffered a heart attack and underwent an angioplasty on Friday but is expected to be discharged in the next couple of days, said the hospital where he is currently admitted.

The 61-year-old complained of chest pain on Thursday following which he was taken to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute emergency department.

India: Multi-Purpose sports complex to be built at Palika stadium

Kanpur: International level facility will be provided in a multi-purpose sports complex at Brajendra Swaroop Park here. 

The vacant land with an area of 8666 sq mt will be developed for this purpose.

A committee to estimate the cost has been formed. Additional chief executive officer, Smart City has been made president of the panel. Other members are chief engineer, civil, KMC, chief engineer lighting, KMC and chief accounts officer, KMC. They will prepare the DPR of the proposed sports complex.
