Tokyo 2020: New Dates For Olympics Could Be Set Next Week

TOKYO, Mar 29 (NNN-IBNS) – Tokyo 2020 chief, Yoshiro Mori, said that, the new dates for the postponed Olympic Games, could be decided by the end of next week.

The Olympic Games, which will be held in the summer of 2021, at the latest, is most likely to be held between Jun and Sept, Mori said, during a programme, broadcast by Nippon Television.

“I want to offer some conclusions by the end of next week, after we’ve mulled it over,” Mori said.

“The games are meant to be in summer, so we should be thinking of a time between Jun and Sept,” Kyodo News Agency said.

World chess body postpones Olympaid to 2021

Chennai, Mar 25 (PTI) The world governing body of chess, FIDE, has postponed the Olympiad, scheduled for August 5-17 in Moscow, to 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The global chess body issued a statement saying that the Olympiad and the FIDE Congress, slated to be held in August in Moscow and Khanty-Mansiysk respectively, are rescheduled to the summer of 2021 at the same locations.

TOKYO, Mar 14 (NNN-NHK) – Tokyo 2020 will work closely with all municipalities and related organisations in Japan, to ensure the Olympic Torch Relay safely begins on Mar 26, the organisers said, after the torch relay for the Games on Greek soil was cancelled.

The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) announced on Friday, the suspension of the Greek leg of the Olympic Torch Relay, citing concerns about public gatherings amid the spread of the COVID-19 in Greece.

Australian pacer Kane Richardson tested for coronavirus, results awaited

Sydney, Mar 13 (PTI) Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson has been tested for the novel coronavirus after he reported illness and will miss the first ODI against New Zealand on Friday.

The right-arm pacer, who returned with the Australian team from South Africa earlier this week, informed the medical staff of a sore throat on Thursday and was tested for the virus, though the results of the test are awaited.

Eight footballers die in serious road accident in Guinea, 17 others injured

CONAKRY, March 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Guinean football is in mourning following a terrible road accident involving second-tier team Club Sportif Etoile de Guinee.

The accident claimed the lives of eight players with 17 others seriously injured.

Etoile were leaving for the city of Kankan for a league fixture against newly-promoted Karfamoriah there on account of the first day of the second-tier season.

The tragic accident happened on Timbo-Mamou stretch about 250 kilometres from the capital Conakry.

UAE cycle event cancelled as athletes test positive for coronavirus
