Military conflict looms in southern Yemen as tension rises between rivals: sources

ADEN, Yemen, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Military confrontations between forces loyal to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Yemen's government became imminent amid rising tensions over the control of key areas, a military official told Xinhua on Saturday.

Tensions escalated in the wake of recent government's accusations to the STC on refusing to implement a Saudi-brokered deal signed between the two rivals in 2019.

ADEN, May 4 (NNN-SABA) – Torrential rain killed at least five Yemeni people, in the country’s south-eastern province of Hadramout, and left some others missing yesterday, according to a government official.

Five people drowned, a few others went missing, and a number of residential houses collapsed, after heavy rain and flood hit the historic district of Tarim in Hadramout, the local government source said, on condition of anonymity.

He said, the flood cut off all highways and washed away vehicles, and many families are still stuck in their homes.

Yemen's rival sides exchange 18 war prisoners

ADEN, Yemen, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Forces loyal to Yemen's government and the Houthi rebels conducted a prisoner exchange in the country's northern province of Marib on Saturday, a government official told Xinhua.

According to the local official who asked to remain anonymous, 18 detainees were released as part of a prisoner exchange between the two warring sides fighting over the control of the strategic oil-rich province of Marib.

The source said that the government forces and the Houthi rebels exchanged prisoners through efforts exerted by local tribal mediators.

Yemen's Houthis advance towards Marib

Military officials in the pro-government forces said the Houthis have taken control of the northwest Kassara battlefront and made progress on western frontlines despite airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition which backs the Yemeni government.

Yemen's Houthis claim new attack on Saudi airbase

SANAA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi militia said they hit King Khalid Airbase in Saudi Arabia's southwestern city of Khamis Mushait with a bomb-laden drone before dawn on Sunday.

"The hit was accurate," Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

Meanwhile, Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya TV said "the Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi bomb drone aimed at the kingdom's south."

This was the fifth reported attack aimed at Saudi cities in nearly a week.

Yemen's Houthis launch fresh attack on Saudi Aramco oil site

SANAA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched three bomb-laden drones at a Saudi Aramco oil facility and the King Khalid Airbase in southwestern Saudi Arabia on Friday morning.

"Two drones hit King Khalid Airbase in Khamis Mushait city and the third one struck the Aramco oil facility in Jazan city," the group's al-Masirah TV reported, adding "the attacks were accurate."

Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV said Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted three drones aimed at Khamis Mushait and Jazan.

SANAA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed they hit a military target in the King Khalid Airbase in Saudi Arabia's southwestern city of Khamis Mushait with a bomb-laden drone before dawn on Thursday.

"The attack was precise," Houthi military spokesman Yehya Sarea said in a statement aired by the rebel group's al-Masirah TV.

Meanwhile, Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV reported that the Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted a drone attack that the Houthi militia launched from Yemen to Khamis Mushait.

Yemen's Houthi rebels say launch drone attack on Saudi air base

SANAA, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi militia said they fired an explosive-laden drone on Saturday toward King Khalid Air Base in the Saudi southwestern city of Khamis Mushait.

"The hit was accurate," Houthi military spokesman Yehya Sarea said in a statement reported by the rebel group's al-Masirah TV.

Saudi Arabia has made no comment on the alleged attack.
