India: 14-year-old Dalit girl sexually harassed in UP village

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 7 (PTI) A 14-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly sexually harassed and abused with casteist slurs in a village here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place under the Budhana police station limits two days back, and the accused was arrested, Additional Superintendent of Police Atul Shrivastava said.

He said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law.

India: Teenage girl raped by 4 in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Sep 7 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly raped by four people in a village in Bansdeeh area, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on September 5 when the girl, aged around 15 years, had gone to attend nature's call, they said.

They threatened me with dire consequences if I reported the incident to my family members, the girl told reporters.

The assailants also said that they would circulate the video of the incident on social media, she added.

India: Researchers working on ways to reduce lead pollution in country

Kanpur: Researchers of both the The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, are conducting a study to find out the appropriate policy instruments that can help the country to reduce lead pollution.

The problem of lead recycling harms not only the mental and physical health of people but also contaminates the environment.

The lead-acid batteries in a fashion causes spillage of acid and lead dust in the soil and surroundings. The melting in open furnaces release poisonous gases into the air.

India: 14-year-old girl raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Sep 6 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man in a village here, police said on Monday.

The attack on the minor girl took place on September 4, when she had gone to a field to get grass, they said.

An FIR was registered based on a complaint by the victim on Sunday under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.

The police said a search was on to nab the accused, identified as Chhotu.

India: Students set extraordinary example of assistance

Kanpur: As the online classes have been started, a few students joined the classes with some of the books.

Those students got full cooperation from their classmates in the class. The students said it was peculiar for them. "Our classmates usually do not share books and notes but this time they showed their large-heartedness", reacted the class students.

As most of the schools running by other boards prefer textbooks prepared by private publications, their prices remain higher than the NCERT books.

India: 17-year-old girl held captive, raped by 3 in UP's Mahoba

Mahoba (UP), Sep 4 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three men who kept her locked in a room for a day, police here said on Saturday.

The teen, who works in a private company, was sexually assaulted on Thursday and made her escape on Friday while she was being taken to another place, police said. Efforts are on to nab the accused who fled the area.

Kanpur: A video of Kanpur Commissioner Dr Raj Shekhar is viral on social media. In this video, the divisional commissioner is seen boarding a government bus like a normal passenger. His surprising raid on two different routes appeared sufficient to know the functionality of the city buses.

India: UP BJP leader booked for duping woman of Rs 1.75 lakh

Barabanki (UP), Sep 3 (PTI) A BJP leader here has been booked for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 1.75 lakh on the pretext of helping her son get a job in a school, police said on Friday.

The matter came to light after a video of the woman, Piyara Devi, a resident of Ruknapur under Loni Katra police station area here, confronting Uttam Verma, president of the BJP's Trideviganj division, went viral on social media.

Verma, however, termed the incident a "political conspiracy".

India: E-rickshaw drivers in Jajmau causing trouble to road users

Kanpur: Nothing irks the vehicle drivers on the road as the e-rickshaws waiting for the passengers do not care a fig for the wrong parking. They surround the space in such a way as others find it difficult to move on.

Such an annoying scene almost occurs every morning and evening on the congested Nai Chungi crossing in the Jajmau area here.

All four sides of the road remain stuffed with e-vehicle and other vehicles during the rush hours. People driving their scooty, bikes or motors prefer the way in lesser rush hours. Noontime remains better to avoid congestion.

India: 5-year-old boy stoned to death by uncle in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 2 (PTI) A 5-year-old boy was allegedly stoned to death by his uncle after the boy caught him stealing money in Bhora Kalan village here, police said on Thursday.

A case was registered in this regard following a complaint by the boy's father, they said.

The accused Anuj Kumar has been arrested, Circle Officer Sharad Chand Sharma said.

According to police, the victim, Sandesh, saw his uncle stealing the money belonging to his father. Kumar later took away the boy and stoned him to death.
