India: SIIC & IIT-K earn credit for installing indigenous oxygen-producing unit

Kanpur: The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre at IIT Kanpur have achieved a landmark by erecting an indigenous oxygen manufacturing infrastructure.

The startup cell has set up 10 oxygen generating plants across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana and Bihar. Each of the plants has the capacity to generate up to 500 to more LPM of oxygen.

India: Respiratory virus cases being attended at Hallett Hospital

Kanpur: Over the past few days the cases of respiratory virus are coming at Hallett Hospital here. This complication is rising  owing to the monsoon season.

Detailing about the cases, Dr Vishal Kumar Gupta, Associate Professor, Medicine Department, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, said the majority of patients have been suffering from flu. Such patients were advised to  pursue treatment from home.
Due to monsoon season, we can see the increase in respiratory virus cases which have symptoms like high fever, cough, sore throat, cold, etc., he added.

India: Owner rushes to inform Fire Brigade of burning factories in Dadanagar

Kanpur: A major fire broke out in two battery cabinet manufacturing factories situated at Dada Nagar Industrial Area Site 5 of Govind Nagar area here on intervening night. The fire also engulfed another adjacent unit of the battery cabinet factory.

As many as sixteen fire tenders rushed on the spot to dodge the leaping fire. Efforts to put out the fire continued throughout the night.

Though the loss is expected to be in several crores due to the fire, the figure is awaited.

India: One died, two fell lifeless while cleaning sewer tank

Kanpur: One died and two others fell unconscious while cleaning the sewer tank in Pali Bhognipur village of the district.

The poisonous gas coming out of the sewer tank took the life of one man and two were recouped. Although the police officer has said of affirming cause of death after the post-mortem report.

According to the news reports, One Malkhan, had hired Hari Kishore, 28 years of age, to clean the sewer tank on Tuesday.

India: Kanpur woman allegedly blames husband of rape

Kanpur:  A woman belonging to the city claimed that her husband forced her to abort the child she bore with him. She added that the man, a resident of Gaya in Bihar, allegedly planned on getting married to another woman in Bihar.

Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya Kumar said woman's complaint has been given top priority. The police are making efforts to arrest the accused on the run.

India: Third wave may peak by Nov if more virulent variant emerges, says scientist

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) A possible third wave of coronavirus may peak in November if a new variant, more virulent than the Delta, emerges and becomes fully active by September end, a scientist involved in the mathematical modelling of pandemic said on Monday.

At the same time, the third wave may not see the number of new cases going as high as the second wave and is more likely to be on the lines of the first wave.

India: Allahabad HC rejects Muslim constable's plea to keep beard

Lucknow, Aug 23 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has refused to allow a suspended Muslim policeman keep a beard while in service, saying it violates official orders and he can't seek protection under Article 25 of the Constitution.

The Lucknow Bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan passed the order on a writ petition filed by police constable Mohd Farman, who was suspended in November last year for maintaining a beard despite being told to shave it.

India: Girl abducted, raped in UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 24 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped after being abducted by two men in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's parents, she was raped by a man identified as Sanjiv Kumar who abducted her with the help of his friend on Monday.

The girl has been sent for medical examination, a police official said, adding a case has been registered against two persons including Kumar.

India: Kanpur to get elevated road from Civil Lines to Ghantaghar

Kanpur: An elevated road stretching between UP Stock Exchange in Civil Lines and Ghantaghar Chauraha will be constructed. This will undoubtedly change the traffic infrastructure in the city. 

The officers concerned have formulated this scheme of raising an elevated road to mitigate a durable remedy to the multiple problems. 

The road users welcoming the decision have felt relief from crowded roads during peak hours.

India: Afghan crisis leads to rise in dry fruits' rates at Kanpur market

Kanpur: Surge in rates of dry fruits has been noticed in the market here. Speaking on this matter, Alankar Omar, Vice president of Nayaganj dry fruits market, said, " The prices of dry fruits here have increased as imports from Afghanistan have been disrupted."

Adding his points he went on saying, "We know a bit about the crisis of that country. We import pistachio, almond, fig, dried apricots from Afghanistan. The prices have increased by almost 15-20 per cent."
