India: Woman gang raped in Noida park

Noida (UP), Nov 15 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by five men in a park here where she had reached to meet a friend in the hope of finding a job but was molested by him also, police said on Friday.

The incident took place in Sector 63 on Wednesday night and four of the six men involved in the case have been arrested, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Vaibhav Krishna said.

India: Dalit (untouchable) youth strangulated to death in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 14 (PTI) A Dalit youth was strangulated to death at Kamalpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Thursday.

The body of the youth, identified as Pankaj Kumar alias Guddu, was found near a tubewell in Kamalpur village under Shahpur police station, Circle Officer Vijay Pratap Singh said, adding that the victim was missing since Wednesday night. The victim was strangulated to death, he said.

Two people have been taken into custody for interrogation, Singh said, adding that the body has been sent for post mortem examination.

India: Newborn girl found in earthen pot recovering

Bareilly (UP) Nov 12 (PTI) The newborn girl, who was rescued from an earthen pot buried almost three feet below the ground, is fast on the path of recovery, doctors said on Tuesday.

The doctors attending to her in a city medical centre said her weight has doubled in one month and other medical parametres are also under control.

Last month, a trader had found the newborn girl in the earthen pot while he had gone to bury his daughter, who died minutes after being born prematurely.

India: Cow shelter built on land given by Muslim youth

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Nov 11 (PTI) A cow shelter home and an old-age home, built on a land given by a Muslim youth in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, have been inaugurated.

The shelter homes on Khaikheri road near Purkazi town were built on a land of two bighas, which was gifted by Sharbat Ali few years ago, the secretary of the managing committee said.

The shelter homes were inaugurated by Hanumat Dham mahant Swami Keshvanand Maharaj on Sunday, he said.

India: Crowd, noise irked Jajmau residents on Sunday

Kanpur: What pained the roadside residents in Jajmau area was an immense crowd and unbearable noise on Sunday evening onwards. A procession was being taken out on an occasion. The noise was, without doubt, more disturbing than the crowd surged on a particular day.

Troubled with the disturbance caused by the continued blaring of the loudspeakers, the residents felt if the sound was eliminated from the programme, there would not be a disturbance. 

Not only this the electricity supply in the area was also disrupted. It was restored only after the procession was taken out. 

India: UP Shia Waqf Board welcomes Ayodhya verdict

Lucknow, Nov 9 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board, whose appeal was dismissed by the Supreme Court while delivering the unanimous decision on the Ayodhya case on Saturday, has welcomed the verdict.

"The Shia Central Waqf Board welcomes the Supreme Court decision and congratulates the countrymen, especially those who fought the legal battle in a dignified manner," board chairman Waseem Rizvi said in a statement.

India: No incident reported from anywhere in UP after Ayodhya judgement: DGP

Lucknow, Nov 9 (PTI) Amid tight security measures in place, Uttar Pradesh remained peaceful following the Supreme Court judgement in the Ayodhya land title dispute case, a senior police officer said here on Saturday.

The apex court cleared the way for the construction of a Ram Temple at the disputed site, and directed the Centre to allot a 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque.

India: Multi-layered security arrangements in place in Ayodhya

Ayodhya, Nov 8 (PTI) Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place in the temple town of Ayodhya with drones being used to monitor the situation ahead of the apex court judgment in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.

Be it the area near the Ramjanmabhoomi police station, "karyashala" of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas or other parts of the town, policemen could be seen checking two-wheelers.

India: BJP leaders not happy with Yogi

Ballia (UP) Nov 8 (PTI) BJP leaders are not happy with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as he doesn't pay heed to their suggestions, UP's Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary has said.

The senior Samajwadi Party leader said there is immense dissatisfaction within the BJP over Adityanath and party leaders do not want to see him in the post of chief minister.

"BJP workers are not happy with the dictatorial working style of Adityanath and do not want to see him in the post," Chaudhary told reporters on Thursday.

India: Jeweller shot at, looted in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 7 (PTI) Four unidentified men allegedly shot at a jeweller in Bharatiya Colony here and fled with ornaments, police said on Thursday.

The incident happened on Wednesday in New Mandi police station area and the injured jeweller Amrish Goel was admitted to a hospital, they said.

The worth of looted jewellery was not known.

CCTV footage was being analysed to identify and nab the culprits, police added.
