India: SDM, 3 others booked for murder of tehsil official in UP

Pratapgarh (UP), Apr 3 (PTI) A case has been registered against four people, including a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), for allegedly thrashing a tehsil official to death, police said on Sunday.

The FIR was registered on Saturday night at Lalganj police station against Lalganj SDM Gyanendra Vikram Singh and three others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 302 (murder), Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil said.

India: Eleven arrested in UP paper leak case

Ballia (UP), Apr 3 (PTI) The mastermind behind the leak of the Uttar Pradesh class 12 English paper was among 11 people arrested in connection with the case, police said on Sunday.

With their arrest, the total number of people held in connection with the exam paper leak on Wednesday climbed to 46. Following the leak, the exam was cancelled in 24 districts of the state including Ballia.

The District Inspector of Schools of Ballia was among those arrested.

India: Fasts begin with sight of new moon of Ramazan in Kanpur

Kanpur: The new moon was clear in the sky. It was visible through the naked eyes. The thin line of the crescent moon was sparkling with whiteness. 

Those who desired to view the new moon of the Hijri calendar tried to climb on the uppermost storey of the residential houses in Jajmau. 

A kind of happiness was reflected on their faces as they found the sight of the sky. The presence of the new moon appeared to stay a little longer time, as was felt.

India: No sale of raw meat in Ghaziabad during Navratra: Mayor

Ghaziabad, Apr 2 (PTI) Selling of raw meat will not be allowed in the open during the ongoing Navratra, Ghaziabad Mayor Asha Sharma said on Saturday.

The district magistrate clarified that licensed meat shops can run their business in covered kiosks during the nine-day-long festival.

India: KDA to develop govt deptt's land lying unused for housing purposes

Kanpur: In a meeting held with Labour Department officials on Friday the KDA vice-chairman Arvind Singh discussed with them its unused land lying in areas like Babu Purwa and Rai Purwa here.

Two closed hospital lands had been lying unused with the labour department. When Cawnpore Improvement Trust existed those lands were given to the labour department for a special purpose, as reported.

The KDA vice-chairman asked the officials to examine the documentation completed in this regard.

India: Absence of greenery in Jajmau stings its residents awfully

India: CSJMU & Bundelkhand University ink MoU for study in journalism

Kanpur: A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Bhaskar Institute of Mass Communication and Journalism, Bundelkhand University, and Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University. The MoU was signed in a hybrid mode on March 30.

Now students of journalism department of Bundelkhand University will be able to study in the journalism department of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur.

India: CBI team conducts raid at JalKal GM's residence in Kanpur

Kanpur: The Delhi team of CBI raided the residence of GM Neeraj Gaur of the Jal kal Department here on Thursday late night.

If sources are to be believed, raids have been conducted In connection with the scam of about 30 crores.

At around 8.30 pm, the local police were also called on the spot along with the CBI team. The CBI team left with several documents in the early hours of Friday.

According to highly placed sources, the CBI team has questioned Neeraj Gaur and his family for hours. Documents have also been confiscated, reports the Hindi news18. 

India: Fast-moving motors on highways remain risky to walkers

Kanpur: Right from Jajmau's Nai Chungi onwards the traffic starts since the early morning. The motorists do not care to mind passing at a fast speed. 

The foot walkers try their best in remaining on the safe side but the speedsters focus only at their momentum not their manner of driving.

Just on Friday morning one careful walker had to stop on the roadside and trotted only after the speeding car passed fastly.

He was returning from his morning walk from the park situated inside the recently developed colony with a leafy overture.
