India: FIR filed against seer for allegedly molesting, threatening girl

Kanpur: An FIR has been registered here against the Mahamandaleshwar of Nirvana Akhara for allegedly raping and molesting a girl on the pretext of performing initiation of the rituals.

The victim met godman Prakhar Ji Maharaj at a religious event in February 2020 to which she had flown from Bengaluru, along with her parents.

Mahamandaleshwar Prakhar Ji Maharaj of Nirvana Akhara was also present at the same event.

India: Jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh missing from Bank lockers in Kanpur

Kanpur: A chartered accountant, SK Poddar, reached the Central Bank of India (Karachi Khana branch) on Monday noon to check on his ₹35-lakh jewellery kept in the locker.

Poddar could not open it with his keys, but after efforts by bank officials, he could do so, only to find the valuables missing.

The victim had operated the locker after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.

In the last two months, this was the third such incident when a customer of this bank complained to the police about missing jewellery and valuables, said the police.

India: Kanpur couple alleges daughter being held captive in Ashram

Kanpur: A couple in Kanpur has accused a seer and his disciple in Haridwar of brainwashing their daughter with the help of black magic and keeping her in their ashram forcibly.

The couple appealed to the State Women Commission and has given an application in this regard.

The Kanpur Police Commissioner has entrusted the investigation of the case to ACP Babu Purwa.

India: Stray cattle caused two deaths in Panki & Kalyanpur

Kanpur: Stray animals roaming on the roads are increasingly becoming a cause of accidents. There were reported as many as two mishaps in Panki and Kalyanpur here. Two have lost their lives as a result.

In Panki a speeding car after losing balance collided with a tempo owing to a bull coming in front of the car.

The accident occurred near the railway Pul Turn at Panki Bhatia Tiraha.

Three passengers in the tempo got injured badly. One seriously injured passenger got admitted to a private nursing home.

India: IIT alumnus inks pact to set up School of medical sciences & technology

Kanpur: An alumni of IIT Kanpur Rakesh Gangwal has not only signed a pact with IIT-K to set up a school of Medical Sciences and Technology on the campus, but also donated a sum of Rs100 crore for the purpose.

He will also soon join the Advisory Board of the institution.

While talking to reporters,  he said that it was a privilege to be associated with such a noble endeavour with my alma mater.

He further appreciated the institute for producing thousands of leaders across various sectors. It is now paving the way in the healthcare sector.

India: BJP MLA linked Sangeet Som Sena chief, 9 others booked for vandalising Muslim food cart

Meerut (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) Ten people, including the state president of an outfit linked to former BJP MLA Sangeet Som, were booked for allegedly vandalising a biryani cart in this district, police said on Monday.

According to police, Sajid, a biryani cart owner, alleged that his cart on Sardhana-Binauli road was vandalised and robbed by 10 people including Sangeet Som Sena state president Sachin Khatik on Saturday.

India: Jajmau's Nai Chungi remains crowded for buying Iftar items

Kanpur: Evening finds the crowd of those people who accumulate to buy different fruits near the Nai Chungi in Jajmau here. On one side of the road, there remains an ample crowd.

A few sellers arrange their respective carts to sell papaya, watermelon, grapes, bananas, apples and cucumbers even.

The surge of the people starts growing after 5 p.m. As the rates of the fruits have been increased, the bargaining procedure of the customers goes useless.

India: Farmer commits suicide in orchard at Kanpur Dehat's Rasulabad

Kanpur: A farmer allegedly committed suicide in his orchard on the outskirts of Rasulabad in Kanpur Dehat district. The body has been sent for the autopsy, told the police officer.

He was compelled after the Rasulabad Nagar Panchayat got his orchard dug up to take mud for some project there, said farmer's son Ankur Singh said in his complaint to the police authorities.

The Station house officer, Rasulabad, Pramod Kumar Shukla said police have lodged an FIR under section 306 of IPC. A suicide not on the deceased was found, said the police quoting Ankur Singh.

India: Fire breaks out in Kanpur Mall, cause yet to be known

Kanpur: The fire broke out at one shopping arcade, Rave Moti Mall in Rawatpur here on Sunday. As many as six fire tenders were rushed to the spot to bring the leaping blaze under control.

According to initial news, the fire was first reported from the mall's second floor. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

Hundreds of people were reportedly trapped inside the complex. A thick line of smoke started billowing out of the mall.

This triggered a commotion as everybody began to run helter-skelter for abrupt safety.
