India: Church vandalised in Uttarakhand by 'Hindutva' mob

Dehradun, Oct 3 (PTI) A mob on Sunday vandalised a church in Uttarakhand's Roorkee, alleging that religious conversion was being carried out there, police sources said.

The mob broke pots kept inside the church and also damaged fans and furniture, they said.

Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar police personnel have been deployed at the spot.

India: Farmer's leader Rakesh Tikait reaches violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Oct 4 (PTI) Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait along with several supporters reached here early Monday in wake of the violence during an anti-farm laws protest that claimed eight lives.

We will first meet the farmers and villagers and discuss the situation with them. The future course of action will be done on the basis of the discussion with the villagers and farmers. Their decision will prevail, Tikait told reporters at Banbirpur village.

India: Akhilesh Yadav detained in Lucknow

Lucknow, Oct 4 (PTI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav was detained on Monday as he sat on a dharna outside his Vikramaditya Marg residence in Lucknow after he was not allowed to go to Lakhimpur.

The SP chief had announced plans to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, where eight people were killed on Sunday as violence erupted during a farmers' protest ahead of a visit by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

India: Minor girl raped in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 4 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar city, police said on Monday.

According to a complaint lodged by the minor's mother, the accused, identified as Kartik, raped the girl in a village here on Sunday and recorded a video of the incident.

He threatened the girl of posting the video on social media if she told anyone about the incident.

A case was registered against Kartik at Kotwali police station and efforts were underway to nab him, the police added.

India: Old man beaten to death over property feud in Kanpur Dehat

Kanpur: An old man was allegedly beaten to death by his nephews over property dispute in the Rasulabad area in Kanpur Dehat on Sunday.

According to the news, the 62-year-old victim Shriram Singh Sengar a resident of Om Purwa had a property dispute with his nephews namely Captain and Ashok Singh. 

On his way to the fields he was waylaid by the nephews on Sunday.They  allegedly beat him up mercilessly.

As a result deep injury was inflicted. This caused his death ultimately.

India: SP workers booked for stir outside minister's Kanpur house

Kanpur: Three hundred Samajwadi Party leaders and workers have been booked for staging a demonstration.

They were protesting outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Minister Satish Mahana here, said police on Sunday.

The SP leaders were opposing inflation, unemployment and law and order situation arising in the state.

They were even going to indulge in 'Gandhigiri' by offering flowers to the minister. But, they were stopped by the minister's supporters on Saturday.

This led to a scuffle between the two groups.

India: Couple, son bludgeoned to death in Kanpur's Fazalganj

Kanpur: A couple and their son were bludgeoned to death in Uchwa area here on Saturday, police said.
The perpetrators allegedly fled the scene with the deceased's motorcycle after executing the killings, a senior police officer said.

The deceased persons are Prem Kishor (45), his wife Geeta (39) and their son Naitik (12).
According to police, Raj Kishor, a driver attached with the additional district and sessions judge, got a call from his neighbour that a milk packet was lying outside his brother Prem's shop and that he was not answering any calls.

India: UP man sentenced to death for raping, killing five-month-old cousin

Lucknow, Sep 30 (PTI) A POCSO court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering his five-month-old cousin.

Pronouncing the verdict, Judge Arvind Mishra said the convict be hanged till death after confirmation of the death penalty from the high court .

India: SYS office-bearer shot dead in Barra, accused held

Kanpur: A young Samajwadi Party office bearer was shot dead allegedly by a fellow party affiliate in Barra area here, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

The incident took place on on Friday evening. The deceased person was identified as Harsh Yadav (20), a law student and resident of Damodar Nagar in Barra here.

Yadav was recently brought in as the district vice-president of Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha of Kanpur Dehat, said an official.

India: Kanpur to be headquarters of three defence public undertakings

Kanpur: The Ministry of Defence has issued a resolution detailing specifics of the formation of the seven Defence Public Sector Undertakings.

It will take over operations of the 41 factories of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).

It now ceased to exist as a body as the resolution came into force on October 1.

Kanpur will have the headquarters of three of the defence public undertakings.
