India: Two cops arrested for killing of Kanpur businessman in UP

Gorakhpur, Oct 10 (PTI) Two policemen were arrested here on Sunday evening in connection with the killing of Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta, police said.

Superintendent of Police (City) Sonam Kumar said Inspector J N Singh and Sub-Inspector Akshay Mishra, who were both under suspension, were handed over to the Kanpur SIT.

India: Three die in head-on crash on Kanpur-Hamirpur highway

Kanpur: Three people were died in a head-on collision between a truck and a trailer on the Kanpur-Hamirpur highway here on Sunday morning, police said.

Both vehicles caught fire after the collision. While, the drivers and a helper were burnt alive, said Superintendent of Police (Kanpur Outer) Ashtbhuja Singh.

The deadly crash led to a kilometre-long traffic jam, he let out.

India: Adityanath a coward, scared of Priyanka, says Baghel

Lucknow, Oct 10 (PTI) UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is a "coward" and was so "scared" of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra that he kept her in custody and did not let her visit Lakhimpur Kheri after violence there, said Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday.

Baghel said this referring to the detention of Priyanka in Sitapur following the violence, in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed last Sunday.

India: 4-year-old girl raped in UP's Fatehpur

Fatehpur (UP), Oct 10 (PTI) A 13-year-old boy was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl here, police said.

While the incident took place on Friday night, the family members of the girl lodged a complaint on Sunday, following which a case was registered, SHO of Ghazipur police station Neeraj Yadav said.

The girl was at a pandal when the boy allegedly took her to an isolated spot behind a house and raped her, the SHO said.

India: Teacher booked on rape charges in UP

Bareilly (UP), Oct 10 (PTI) A madrasa teacher has been booked on rape charges in Sheeshgarh area of the district, police said on Sunday.

According to a complaint filed by the victim, she came to the madrasa four years ago. The accused used to study with her, but he later started teaching at the madrasa.

The woman alleged that both of them fell in love with each other, Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said.

India: Class 9 student raped in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 11 (PTI) A class 9 student was allegedly raped by her classmate's brother in a village here, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday when the 15-year-old girl had gone to her classmate's house in the village, they said.

The accused had also recorded a video of the incident.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's family, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the IPC and efforts were underway to nab him, the police added.

India: Reward on absconding cops input raised to Rs 1 lakh

Kanpur: Reward for information on cops absconding in Kanpur businessman death case has reportedly been hiked.

It has enhanced the amount to Rs one lakh from Rs 25000 for information on each of the six policemen booked in the murder case of  Kanpur businessman, according to a press release. 

Furthermore, it was also made clear that the identity of the informant would be kept secret and the responsibility of his protection would be taken by the Police Commissionerate, Kanpur.

India: SP's Rath Yatra also to run from Kanpur to Hamirpur

Kanpur:  Samajwadi Party’s Chief Akhilesh Yadav is set to begin his state-wide Rath Yatra from October 12. He will emulate the  2011 Yatra. If the party formed a majority government in 2012, the present Yatra will do the same feat, as he guesses.

Akhilesh Yadav said, “We will start our Samajwadi Vijay Yatra from October 12. The Yatra will run from Kanpur to Hamirpur.”

India: EC should ban pre-poll surveys by media outlets 6 months before elections: Mayawati

Lucknow, Oct 9 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday said she will write to the Election Commission demanding surveys by media organisations and other agencies be banned six months before any elections, so that the polls in the particular state are not influenced by it.

Addressing the 15th death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram here at the Kanshiram Smarak Sthal, Mayawati demanded that Bharat Ratna be given to the late Dalit leader and added that people in Uttar Pradesh have made up their mind on changing power in the state.
