India: Woman abducted, raped in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by two men in the New Mandi area here, police said on Wednesday.

The woman, a student, was abducted when she was returning home from school on Tuesday. She was taken to a nearby place where she was raped by accused Sagar and Pawan Kumar, they said.

A case was registered against the two men, who are absconding, police said, adding the medical examination of the victim was carried out.

India: Kept in illegal confinement; no FIR, not allowed to meet counsel: Priyanka Vadra

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday alleged that she was being held illegally at the PAC compound in Sitapur and no notice or FIR has been provided to her even after her 38-hour detention and was not allowed to meet her legal counsel.

In a statement, she said she has not been produced in front of a magistrate or any other judicial officer and neither has she been allowed to meet her legal counsel, who has been standing at the gate of the compound since morning.

India: IIT-K enters into pact with Delhi to tail air pollution sources

Kanpur: The IIT-K and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has endorsed a project to provide valid information about the sources of air pollution in Delhi and also to generate forecasts for air pollution management.

The air quality will be deciphered a weekly, monthly as well as seasonal basis. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, molecular markers, secondary organic and inorganic aerosols will also be considered.

Monitoring oxides of nitrogen, ozone, sulphur dioxide, elemental carbon, organic carbon and other organic compounds will be part of the project.

India: ICMR & IIT-K evolve i-drone to send vaccines in tough zones

Kanpur: The Indian Council Medical Research has developed i-Drone in alliance with IIT-K.

It will be the first flying commercial drone in the South Asian region. This will facilitate vaccine delivery to tough and difficult-to-reach terrains of the country.

On October 4, India transported vaccines across Manipur's remote and hilly regions conveniently, 

Covering a distance of 31 km in 15 minutes for delivering the vaccines remains a unique task. It was transported from Bishnupur District Hospital to Karang Health Centre, Loktak Lake, Manipur.

India: Farmers in Mathura protest over Lakhimpur violence

Mathura, Oct 4 (PTI) The BKU here on Monday protested the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, which took place during a farmers' protest over UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit there.

Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the incident on Sunday.

No untoward incident took place during the protest, DM Navneet Singh Chahal said.

After protesting for over half an hour, the Bharatiya Kisan Union, led by its state vice-president Buddha Singh Pradhan, presented a memorandum to the city magistrate.

India: Death toll in UP factory explosion rises to 5

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 5 (PTI) One more worker who was injured in an explosion at a factory manufacturing firecrackers died at a hospital in Meerut, taking the toll to five, officials said.

Mobin, a resident of Bahraich, succumbed to injuries at a medical college in Meerut on Monday evening.

The explosion took place at the factory in Shamli's Kairana town on October 1, killing four people and injuring several others, SHO Prem Singh Rana said.

India: Kanpur's Phool Bagh underground parking yet to open

Kanpur: Despite inauguration at the hands of state's CM five days ago, the incomplete underground parking near Phool Bagh in the city areas was yet not open for public.

The KDA seemed to have left its final touch work as even its officials have said. It was built to stop the illegal parking of vehicles on roads causing traffic jams.

India: FIR against minister's son for killing farmers in Lakhimpur, oppn leaders blocked from visiting site

Lakhimpur Kheri/Lucknow, Oct 4 (PTI) The UP government grappled on Monday with the aftermath of violence during a farmers protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, lodging a case against Union minister Ajay Mishra's son, promising a probe by a retired high court judge and stopping opposition leaders from reaching the trouble spot.

India: DM issues show-cause notice to Ursula's officers

Kanpur: A show-cause notice has been issued to both the CMS Dr A K Singh and Chief Medical Officer Dr Nepal Singh respectively of Ursula hospital here.

In his spot inspection on Tuesday morning, District Magistrate Vishakhkji Aiyyar has found various flaws in the hospital.

Both the officers were asked to respond within the prescribed  time. He has asked them various pointwise questions.

It was reported that he reached the hospital like a common man in the morning. As he was wearing a mask on his face he started reading the poor administration of the hospital. 

India: Employees are talking about right to protest in Kanpur

Kanpur: Much like other centres, much of the conversation in Kanpur in the five OFB units, Field Gun Factory, Small Arms Factory (SAF), Ordnance Equipment Factory (OEF), Ordnance Parachute Factory (OPF), and Ordinance Factory (OF), is actually about the right to protest itself.

On August 3, the government passed the Essential Defence Services Act 2021, and a gazette notification on this was issued on August 12, barring employees working in the sector from protesting.
