US lifts some sanctions from Iran energy sector

Trump gov't would have supported Israel against Gaza: Pompeo

11 June 2021; MEMO: Former US President Donald Trump would have "unconditionally" supported Israel in its latest onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.

"We, in the previous administration, would have done it differently. We would immediately clarify our support for Israel without reservation," Pompeo said in an interview with Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth.

Biden looking forward to reviewing 'full breadth' of US-Turkish ties: official

08 June 2021; MEMO: US President Joe Biden is looking forward to reviewing the "full breadth" of US-Turkish ties when he meets his Turkish counterpart later this month, a top official said on Monday.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the meeting, planned to be held on the sidelines of the June 14 NATO summit in Brussels, presents "a business-like opportunity to review" bilateral ties, saying Biden and Erdogan "are both looking forward to the opportunity."

US pledges to restock Israel's Iron Dome supply

05 June 2021; MEMO: The US administration has pledged to replenish Israel's Iron Dome defence system after it was depleted during the 11-day Israeli offensive on Gaza in May, Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported on Friday.

Quds Press reported Kan stating that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made this pledge to Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz in the presence of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

India will be a 'significant recipient' of US vaccines

Washington, Jun 4 (PTI) India will be a "significant recipient" of US vaccines, the country's envoy here has said as President Joe Biden announced details of his administration's decision to send 25 million COVID-19 shots to countries across the globe.

US President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced that the US will allocate 75 per cent - nearly 1.9 crore of the first tranche of 2.5 crore doses - of unused COVID-19 vaccines from its stockpile through the UN-backed COVAX global vaccine sharing programme to countries in South and Southeast Asia as well as Africa.

Indian economist Kalpana Kochhar joining Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Washington, Jun 3 (PTI) Noted Indian economist Kalpana Kochhar, who heads the Human Resources Department of the IMF, is retiring next month after serving for over three decades with the organisation to join the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Kochhar, who served in various senior positions during her three decades at the International Monetary Fund, will retire on July 30, and will join as Director of Development Policy and Finance, at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the IMF announced on Wednesday.

USA: Bill to remove per country cap on Green Card introduced in US Congress

Washington, Jun 3 (PTI) A bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the US House of Representatives to eliminate the per country cap on employment-based Green Card, a move which is likely to benefit Indian IT professionals languishing over decades of waiting for the Permanent Resident Card.

The legislation was introduced by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Congressman John Curtis.
