USA: Trump permanently shuts down his social media site

Washington, Jun 3 (PTI) Donald Trump has permanently closed his blog, a webpage where the former US president shared his fiery speeches and statements after being banned by social media giants, including Facebook and Twitter.

The page titled From the Desk of Donald J. Trump has been removed from Trump's website after going live less than a month earlier, his spokesperson Jason Miller told CNBC news on Wednesday.

It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on, Miller said, adding that the webpage will not be returning .

Israel to request $1bn more in US military aid

US formally ends policy for asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico

Washington, Jun 2 (AP-PTI) The Biden administration on Tuesday formally ended a Trump-era immigration policy that forced asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration court.

A seven-page memo by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas marked the end of the Migrant Protection Protocols, which returned about 70,000 asylum-seekers to Mexico from January 2019 until it was halted on President Joe Biden's first day in office two years later.

US recognises India is important part of conversation on Afghanistan: Jaishankar

Washington, May 29 (PTI) There is a recognition in the US that India is an important part of the conversation when it comes to talk about the future of Afghanistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said.

Jaishankar, who is in the US on an official trip, said the situation in Afghanistan, from where the US is in the process of withdrawing its troops, was discussed during his meetings with Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan.

Major US arms sale deal to UAE at risk over China ties

27 May 2021; MEMO: A multibillion-dollar sale of advanced US weapons to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could be at jeopardy due to Washington's concern over Abu Dhabi's growing relations with China, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The paper quoted US officials as saying that American spy agencies have in recent weeks monitored two planes belonging to China's People's Liberation Army which landed at an airport in the UAE and unloaded crates of undetermined materials.

Israel rejects US plan to reopen consulate for Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem

27 May 2021; MEMO: The Israeli occupation authorities rejected on Wednesday the US plan to reopen its consulate in East Jerusalem, local media have reported.

Israel's Ambassador in Washington, Gilad Erdan, said that the government firmly opposes the move to reopen the consulate catering for the Palestinians within what he described as Israel's "sovereign territory".

USA: GOP senators ready $1T infrastructure counteroffer to Biden

Washington, May 26 (AP-PTI) Senate Republicans revived negotiations over President Joe Biden's sweeping investment plan, preparing a USD 1 trillion infrastructure proposal that would be funded with COVID-19 relief money as a counteroffer to the White House ahead of a Memorial Day deadline toward a bipartisan deal.

The Republicans said Tuesday they would disclose details of the new offer by Thursday, sounding upbeat after both sides had panned other offers.

USA: Over 500 ex-staffers urge Biden to end Israel's apartheid regime

25 May 2021; MEMO: In a major call to hold Israel accountable for its crimes, over 500 former Biden campaign and Democratic Party staffers signed an open letter urging the US president to do more to protect Palestinians and end the impunity enjoyed by the occupation state whose latest aggression has led to the death of over 253 Palestinians, including 66 children, 39 women and 17 elderly people.
