Tunisia: Authorities close Anti-Corruption Authority headquarters after evicting employees

21 Aug 2021; MEMO: Tunisian police forces on Friday have abruptly closed the headquarters of the Tunisian Anti-Corruption Authority (INLUCC) after evicting its employees.

Witnesses told German news agency DPA that the governor of Tunis came to INLUCC's headquarters, located in the prestigious Buhaira area (close to the centre of the capital), accompanied by police forces.

160 people evacuated from Afghan capital reach Istanbul

21 Aug 2021; MEMO: Some 160 people, including Turkish citizens and foreign nationals, evacuated from Afghanistan's capital Kabul arrived in Istanbul on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

They were first taken to Pakistan on a Turkish Air Force transport plane and then brought to Istanbul on a Turkish Airlines flight.

The Turkish citizens among the evacuees have been directed to quarantine at their homes, while the foreign nationals have been placed in hotels.

Sudan vows to support peace efforts in Somalia

KHARTOUM, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Sudan on Friday vowed to support the efforts to achieve peace and stability in Somalia in cooperation with all Somali parties and the regional and international partners.

Sudan welcomed the recent agreement reached between the African Union (AU) Commission and the federal government of Somalia to extend the mandate of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), said Sudan's foreign ministry in a statement.

The ministry stressed AMISOM's important role in pushing the peace efforts in Somalia since its deployment.

Jordan Ready To Provide Lebanon With Electricity

AMMAN, Aug 20 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan yesterday stressed its readiness, to provide all possible support to Lebanon, including providing electric power from the Jordanian grid.

Jordan will also help Lebanon get Egyptian gas through Jordan and Syria, said Jordan’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Hala Zawati.

King Abdullah II of Jordan has reiterated his country’s willingness to cooperate with partners to help Lebanon, said the statement.

PM has third COVID-19 shot as Israel extends booster campaign

JERUSALEM, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett received a third shot of Pfizer/BioNtech's (PFE.N), (22UAy.DE) COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, after Israel extended its booster campaign for people over 40 to try to curb the Delta coronavirus variant.

New cases in Israel have surged since Delta's emergence and Bennett, 49, has sought to avoid an economically painful national lockdown by ramping up third doses.

UAE: Italian drug dealer connected to stolen Van Gogh paintings arrested

20 Aug 2021; MEMO: A suspected Italian drug trafficker who police believe may have bought two stolen paintings by Vincent Van Gogh has been arrested in the UAE, Reuters has reported.

Raffaele Imperiale, 46, was arrested in Dubai on 4 August by local police officers cooperating with their Italian counterparts. He had been on the run since 2016 and Italy had included him on its list of most dangerous fugitives.

Israel allows construction material into Gaza

20 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli authorities yesterday allowed goods to enter the Gaza Strip through the Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) border crossing for the first time since the last aggression in May.

An official source told Anadolu Agency that trucks loaded with goods had entered Gaza "under the Israeli forces supervision." He added that the shipment had included "cement for construction projects managed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)."

Lebanon files complaint with UN over Israel's use of its airspace to strike Syria

20 Aug 2021; MEMO: Lebanon today lodged an official complaint with the UN Security Council (UNSC) following what it said was an Israeli airstrike on Syria from within its airspace yesterday, according to a government statement.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry said Israeli warplanes violated Lebanese airspace and flew at low altitudes over areas in southern Lebanon.
