Tunisia launches first home-made satellite

TUNIS, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian satellite Challenge ONE was launched on Monday from the Baikonur base in south-central Kazakhstan aboard the Russian Soyuz-2.1a rocket which also carried other satellites.

On this occasion, Telnet Group, the owner of Challenge ONE, organized a ceremony at its headquarters in the capital Tunis to follow the live coverage of the event at the presence of Tunisian President Kais Saied.

Strikes on northwest Syria kill 1 person, cause wide damage

BEIRUT (AP) — Airstrikes on several locations in northwest Syria near the border with Turkey have killed at least one person and set afire several trucks used to distribute aid, opposition activists and a paramedic group said Monday.

The late Sunday attacks angered Turkey, which had asked Russia to secure an immediate end to the strikes, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said, adding that Turkish troops had been placed on alert.

Turkey: 2,764 foreign 'fighters' deported since 2019

21 Mar 2021; MEMO: Turkey has deported a total of 2,764 'foreign terrorists fighters' of 67 different nationalities since 2019, the country's Interior Ministry announced on Sunday, reported by Anadolu Agency.

In a statement, the ministry said the militants had left their home countries to join ranks of terror groups such as Daesh or PKK/PYD, the Kurdish paramilitary group that the Turkish government considers to be a terrorist entity.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israelis vote Tuesday in their fourth parliamentary election in just two years. Once again, the race boils down to a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu, who has served as prime minister for the past 12 years, hopes voters will reward him for leading the country’s successful coronavirus vaccine rollout and his diplomatic outreach to the Arab world. His challengers have highlighted his earlier missteps in the coronavirus strategy, his reliance on divisive religious and ultra-nationalist allies and his ongoing corruption trial.

Palestine: Hamas urges Turkish MPs to oppose Israeli demolitions

22 Mar 2021; MEMO: The leader of the Palestinian group Hamas on Saturday urged Turkish lawmakers to oppose Israeli "crimes," referring to the demolition of Palestinian homes in Jerusalem, reported Anadolu Agency.

Visiting the city of Istanbul for official talks, Ismail Haniyeh and other senior members of the group met Turkish officials and legislators, including Hasan Turan, the head of the Turkey-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Israel official reveals mega railway project to UAE

Head of Israeli National Economic Council Avi Simhon has revealed that Israel and the UAE are planning to establish a railway project linking Abu Dhabi with Haifa, Sama news agency reported yesterday.

According to the news site, Simhon told the Hebrew press that the two countries are studying several mega infrastructure projects, including this railway.

Palestinians in Saudi call on Abbas to save them from 'slow death'

22 Mar 2021; MEMO: More than 150,000 Palestinians living in Saudi Arabia have sent a letter to Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas to save them from a "slow death" in the kingdom, Aram news network reported yesterday.

The Palestinians submitted the letter to their embassy in the kingdom and called for Abbas to either help solve their outstanding issues or repatriate them to Palestine from where they were displaced.
