Palestine: 'We will not tolerate Israeli occupation forever': Abbas

Abbas made his comment on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and stressed that continuous occupation "undermines" the two-state solution.

Erdogan says Turkey ready to mediate between Ukraine and Russia -NTV

ANKARA/MOSCOW, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Turkey is ready to act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia, President Tayyip Erdogan was cited as saying by broadcaster NTV on Monday, despite having angered Moscow by selling armed drones to Kyiv earlier this year.

U.S., NATO and Ukrainian officials say Russian forces have massed on the border of Ukraine, which is battling Moscow-backed separatists who control part of its territory in the east.

Jordan sets March 22 as date for local elections

28 Nov 2021; MEMO: Jordan will hold local elections on March 22, the country's electoral commission said on Sunday, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, commission spokesman Jihad al-Momani said members of the municipal and provincial councils and Greater Amman Municipality will be elected during the vote.

In March, the Jordanian government decided to dissolve the local councils, including Greater Amman Municipality.

The kingdom's last local polls were held in August 2017.

Israel bans Jerusalem sheikh from entering Al-Aqsa, West Bank

29 Nov 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation authorities yesterday released the Deputy Director-General of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Council, Sheikh Najeh Bakirat, on condition of deportation from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the occupied West Bank.

The Safa news agency reported, Bakirat saying: "I was released on oppressive conditions –banned from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque for 20 days and from entering into the occupied West Bank for 30 days."

Libya concedes nomination for African Security Council membership

29 Nov 2021; MEMO: Libya's Foreign Minister has apparently told her Moroccan counterpart that her country had conceded the nomination for membership of the African Peace and Security Council for the term 2022-2025, Anadolu reported on Sunday.

According to the official Moroccan news agency, Najla Al-Manqoush informed Nasser Bourita about this and expressed her support for the Moroccan nominee. However, Libya has not commented officially on the matter.

Hamas insists Israeli soldiers will not be released without prisoner deal

29 Nov 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation soldiers captured in the besieged Gaza Strip will not be released without a deal to release Palestinian political prisoners held by Israel, the Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, said on Sunday.

Haniyeh made his comments in an interview with the international Arab Forum for Solidarity with Detainees in Israeli Jails during which he stressed that the issue of Palestinian detainees is a top priority for Hamas and the Palestinian resistance groups.

Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan sign gas swap deal

28 Nov 2021; MEMO: Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have signed a gas swap deal for up to 2 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported on Sunday, Reuters reports.

Under the swap deal, Iran will receive gas from Turkmenistan and deliver an equivalent amount to Azerbaijan at the Astara border, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told state TV.

Lebanon: Hezbollah warns of coup against Taif Agreement

29 Nov 2021; MEMO: The head of the Hezbollah bloc in the Lebanese parliament warned on Sunday of a possible coup against the Taif Agreement which ended 15 years of civil war (1975-1990) through which power in the country was split among Muslims and Christians, Anadolu has reported. Mohammad Raad said that the coup would favour the axis in favour of normalisation with Israel.

Palestine: PA condemns Israeli president's 'storming' of Ibrahimi Mosque

29 Nov 2021; MEMO: The senior religious adviser to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has condemned the visit by Israel's President Isaac Herzog to Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied Palestinian city of Hebron. Given that Herzog was accompanied by Israeli soldiers, it is being reported that he "stormed" into the mosque, much of which has been commandeered by Israel for use by illegal settlers.
