Tunisia: Ghannouchi blames Saied for death of MP's wife

27 Nov 2021; MEMO: Speaker of Tunisian Parliament Rached Ghannouchi has blamed President Kais Saied for the death of MP Imad Al-Khumairi's wife after she was deprived of receiving treatment on health insurance, The New Khalij reported on Friday.

As part of the exceptional measures imposed by Saied following the suspension of Parliament, he suspended the health insurance and salaries of MPs.

Israel reduces cyber technologies sales amid NSO scandal

27 Nov 2021; MEMO: Amid global scandals regarding Israel's spyware firm, the NSO Group, the Israeli Ministry of Defence has reduced the number of countries to which Israeli companies can sell cyber technologies, The Times of Israel reported on Thursday.

In a report about November updates, the Israeli Ministry of Defence said that it reduced the number of countries to 37, down from 102, the Israeli Calcalist Business News daily said.

Israel tightens travel restrictions over new COVID variant

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel on Sunday approved barring entry to foreign nationals and the use of controversial technology for contact tracing as part of its efforts to clamp down on a new coronavirus variant.

The Health Ministry said in a statement that the country’s coronavirus cabinet had authorized a raft of measures, including red-listing travel to 50 African countries, banning entry by foreigners and mandating quarantine for all Israelis arriving from abroad.

Iran Determined To Advance “Peaceful” Nuke Programme, Continue Cooperation With IAEA

TEHRAN, Nov 27 (NNN-IRNA) – The Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), Behrouz Kamalvandi, said that, Iran is determined to advance with its “peaceful” nuclear programme, while cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“World powers have politicised part of Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme, but Iran is pursuing a peaceful nuclear industry,” Kamalvandi said.

Palestine Condemns Israel For Approving Settlement Units Building In West Bank

RAMALLAH, Nov 27 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine yesterday condemned Israel, for approving the construction of 372 settlement units in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The Israeli move “is an extension of the process of deepening and expanding illegal settlements in the heart of the old city of Hebron,” said the Palestinian foreign ministry.

The “provocative” move came, just a few days after the Israeli approval of building 11,000 units on the lands of the defunct Qalandia Airport in East Jerusalem, also known as the Jerusalem International Airport, said the ministry.

New UAE criminal code among 40 legal changes in reform push

DUBAI, Nov 27 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates on Saturday said a new criminal code would come into force in January as part of what it called the most sweeping legal reform in the Gulf state's history.

State news agency WAM reported the government is changing 40 laws this year. It did not make clear, however, which of the changes - which concern commercial companies, online security, trade, copyright, residency, narcotics and social issues - were new and which had been previously reported.

Sudanese prime minister dismisses police chief and his deputy

CAIRO, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said on Saturday he dismissed the chief of police, Lieutenant-General Khaled Mahdi Ibrahim Al-Emam, and his deputy.

Lieutenant-General Anan Hamed Mohammed Omar was appointed as the new police chief and Major General Muddathir Abd al-Rahman Nasr al-Din as his deputy, Hamdok added in a post on Twitter.

Erdogan says Turkey's rate cuts to go on

ISTANBUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that rate cuts would go on in his country, adding he would not allow Turkish people to be "crushed" by high interest rates.

Speaking in Turkey's western province of Izmir, Erdogan said his government would not give up its economic policies that focus on production, employment, and current account balance.

The Turkish central bank has cut its benchmark policy rate by 400 basis points since August to 15 percent, leaving the Turkish currency in a free fall against the U.S. dollar.

Algerians hold local elections amid anger over rising prices

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — Algerians are voting Saturday to elect mayors and regional leaders amid widespread worry and frustration over rising prices for basic goods, housing and health care.

The government is hoping the election confirms support for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who won election after his predecessor was ousted in 2019 by pro-democracy protests backed by the army chief. But many Algerians see Tebboune’s leadership as only a cosmetic change and are deeply disillusioned by politics.
