Saudi Arabia to locally produce 70% of energy products it needs

07 Oct 2021; MEMO: Saudi Arabia is planning to locally produce 70 per cent of the energy products it requires over the next ten years, the country's energy minister announced yesterday.

Abdulaziz Bin Salman told reporters in the Saudi city of Dammam that the move was part of the kingdom's efforts to "increase Saudis employment across various economic sectors."

Hamas calls on Arab and Muslim leaders to oppose normalisation with Israel

07 Oct 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, called on Wednesday for Arab and Muslim leaders to oppose further normalisation deals with Israel in return for "false promises", Anadolu has reported.

Responding to remarks made by Israel's Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, the head of the Hamas Political Department Abroad, Sami Abu Zuhri, said that the movement is "extremely concerned" about Israel promoting more normalisation deals with Arab states.

Egypt pardons thousands of prisoners to commemorate 1973 war

07 Oct 2021; MEMO: The Egyptian authorities yesterday announced the release of 3,886 prisoners on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the 6 October 1973 war.

"Prisoner files were examined nationwide before determining those who deserved to be pardoned," said the interior ministry." The process was concluded with the release of 3,886 prisoners." Those being released, the ministry added, are being transferred to police stations in preparation for their release.

UAE: Dubai ruler hacked ex-wife's phone, UK court rules

07 Oct 2021; MEMO: The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, ordered the hacking of the phones of his ex-wife and her lawyers, in a "sustained campaign of intimidation and threat," a UK High Court ruled yesterday.

The landmark ruling found that Al-Maktoum had instigated the hacking of the phones of his ex-wife Princess Haya Bint Al-Hussein and her lawyers using the Pegasus spyware developed by Israeli cybersecurity firm the NSO Group.

Turkey: 'We will replace constitution with a more democratic version': Erdogan

07 Oct 2021; MEMO: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that he hopes that the new constitution being drawn up for the country will be more democratic and ready for public debate by 2022, Anadolu reports.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) will finalise work on the new constitution, he said.

Number Of Syrian Refugees Surpasses 3.7 Million In Turkey

ISTANBUL, Oct 6 (NNN-ANADOLU) – The number of registered Syrian refugees in Turkey surpassed 3.7 million, an official data, updated in Sept, revealed.

The General Directorate of Migration Management reported that, 1.76 million of the Syrian refugee population in the country, or 47 percent of them, are children aged below 18.

Turkey’s most crowded city, Istanbul, has the highest number of Syrians at nearly 533,000, followed by the southeastern provinces of Gaziantep and Hatay, having 458,000 and 437,000 refugees respectively.

Lebanese PM says he signs bill lifting immunity in Beirut blast case -Sky News Arabia

Cairo Oct 6 (Reuters) - Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati told Sky News Arabia on Wednesday that he signed a draft law lifting immunity on everyone facing prosecution over the Beirut blast case.

The blast, which happened on August 4th 2020, left more than 200 dead.

He added in an interview that the constitution stipulated that senior government officials must be tried in front of a special tribunal.
