Malaysia Airlines Flights From India Did Not Carry Any Passenger

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia Airlines Berhad on Monday stressed that its flights mounted between May 1 and 3 from India did not carry any passengers other than the flight crew who remained on board during transit.

As a further precaution, the airline also did not allow any ground maintenance personnel in India to enter its aircraft, it said in a statement.

Philippines foreign minister issues expletive-laced tweet over China sea dispute

(Reuters) --- The Philippine foreign minister on Monday demanded in an expletive-laced message on Twitter that China’s vessels get out of disputed waters, marking the latest exchange in a war of words with Beijing over its activities in the South China Sea.

The comments by Teodoro Locsin, known for making blunt remarks at times, follow Manila's protests for what it calls the "illegal" presence of hundreds of Chinese boats inside the Philippines 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Russia, facing lags, turns to China to produce Sputnik shots

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Russia is turning to multiple Chinese firms to manufacture the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in an effort to speed up production as demand soars for its shot.

Russia has announced three deals totaling 260 million doses with Chinese vaccine companies in recent weeks. It’s a decision that could mean quicker access to a shot for countries in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa that have ordered Russia’s vaccine, as the U.S. and the European Union focus mainly on domestic vaccination needs.

Pakistan’s exports to China shot up by 64% during Jan-March: Commercial Consular

BEIJING, May 2 (APP): China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement Phase-II (CPFTA-II) effective since January 1, last year is now showing results. Pakistan’s exports to China shot up by 64% during January-March 202, Commercial Consular, Pakistan Embassy, Beijing, Badar Uz Zaman said.

First batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine arrives in Azerbaijan

BAKU, May 2. /TASS/: The first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine arrived in Azerbaijan on Sunday, a TASS correspondent reported.

The drugs were delivered to Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

Representatives of Azerbaijan’s Foreign and Health Ministries and Russian Ambassador to Baku Mikhail Bocharnikov took part in the greeting ceremony.

Bishkek, Dushanbe withdraw troops from border to places of permanent deployment

BISHKEK, May 2. /TASS/: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have begun to withdraw servicemen and military equipment from the border armed conflict zone, the Border Guard Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security reported on Sunday.

"The sides began withdrawal of supplementary forces and equipment from the state border line to points of permanent dislocation," the statement said. According to the agency, the situation at the border is "characterized as stable," "no incidents or shootouts have been recorded" overnight.

China says its carrier group conducts exercise in South China Sea

(Reuters) --- China’s Shandong aircraft carrier task group recently conducted an exercise in the South China Sea, the country's People's Liberation Army (PLA) said on Sunday.

China has repeatedly complained about United States Navy ships getting close to islands it occupies in the South China Sea, where Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei and Taiwan all also have competing claims.

U.S. carrier groups have sailed near Chinese-controlled islands in the disputed waters several times this year, drawing denunciation from China. 

China has given 270.41 mln doses of covid-19 vaccines as of May 1

(Reuters) --- China has administered 270.41 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country as of Saturday, the National Health Commission said on Sunday.

That compares with 265.06 million doses given as of Friday, up 5.34 million doses.

China's vaccination pace has quickened recently. However, because of its large population, China still lags behind the United States in terms of the proportion of the administered population per 100 people.

NKorea warns US of ‘very grave situation’ over Biden speech

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea on Sunday warned the United States will face “a very grave situation” because President Joe Biden “made a big blunder” in his recent speech by calling the North a security threat and revealing his intent to maintain a hostile policy against it.

Last week, Biden, in his first address to Congress, called North Korea and Iran’s nuclear programs “serious threats” to American and world security and said he’ll work with allies to address those problems through diplomacy and stern deterrence.

Pak: CPEC hydropower project achieves second-stage river closure

BEIJING, May 1 (APP): Pakistan’s Suki Kinari (SK) Hydropower Project in the northwestern part of the country achieved the second-stage river closure yesterday, entering a new phase of its dam construction.

The successful cut of the Kunhar River’s main riverbed with the river being diverted to spillway is to create free-from-water working areas for construction of concrete dam of the power station under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), located in the Mansehra district of the South Asian country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
