Muzaffarnagar, Oct 23 (PTI) A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband over a family dispute, following which the man was arrested, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on October 13 in Khatoli district, SHO Santosh Kumar Tyagi said.

Anuradha was rushed to a hospital here, where she succumbed to injuries, police said.

A case was registered against her husband Dinesh in connection with the mater, the SHO said.

Chandigarh, Oct 23 (PTI) Re-polling was underway in five polling booths in as many assembly constituencies of Haryana on Wednesday.

Some "shortcomings" had been noticed after which re-polling was ordered in these booths, state's joint chief electoral officer Dr Inder Jeet had said on Tuesday.

Lucknow, Oct 21 (PTI) Just over 47 per cent of eligible voters exercised their franchise in the bypolls to 11 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

Polling began at 7 am amid tight security, officials said, adding that 47.05 per cent of electors exercised their franchise.

Gangoh in Saharanpur district saw the highest turnout with about 60.30 per cent voters exercising their franchise.

In Lucknow Cantonment, only 28.53 per cent of eligible electors cast their vote.

Chennai, Oct 21 (PTI) Landslips have been reported in some parts of Nilgiris district, as the Regional weather office here on Monday predicted heavy rainfall to occur over Tamil Nadu during the next five days with the North East Monsoon becoming active.

Landslips were reported at least in 10 places in Nilgiris district following rains during the last two days, particularly in Coonoor, disrupting movement of vehicles in the morning, officials said.

However, operations to clear the debris are going on a war footing, they said.

Shopian, Oct 21 (PTI) Under the recently launched market intervention scheme (MIS), over 40,000 boxes of apple were procured from registered farmers in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, an official said on Monday.

The apples were taken from orchardists at the new mega fruit mandi in Aglar, Shopian through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED), deputy commissioner of Shopian Choudhary Mohammad Yasin said during a review of the MIS in the district.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban stormed a checkpoint in northern Afghanistan, killing at least 15 policemen in the latest attack by insurgents, an Afghan provincial official said Tuesday.

The multi-pronged attack on the checkpoint in the Ali Abad district of northern Kunduz province began late on Monday night and set off an hours-long gunbattle, according to Ghulam Rabani Rabani, a provincial council member. Along with the 15 policemen killed, two other officers were wounded in the assault, he said.

Imphal, Oct 21 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has called for an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Naga peace talk and its impact on Manipur, officials said on Monday.

The meeting was called three days after the Interlocutor for the Naga talks and Nagaland Governor R N Ravi said that the Central government is determined to conclude the decades-long peace process without delay.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) IT services firm Infosys on Tuesday plummeted 16 per cent on concerns over a whistleblower complaint which alleges that two of the company's top executives were indulging in unethical practices to increase short-term revenue and profits.

The scrip plunged 15.94 per cent to Rs 645.35 on the BSE.

On the NSE, it tanked 15.99 per cent to Rs 645.
