India: 4 held for smashing judge's car window, fleeing with bag

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Four men have been arrested for allegedly smashing the rear window of a judge's car and fleeing with her bag containing a wallet, documents and debit cards.

The incident had occurred at a traffic signal near the Okhla Industrial area on September 9.

A special task force (STF) team of the southeast district police arrested Arun, 25, Satvel, 25, Sanju, 22, and Ritik, 20, and also recovered stolen ATM cards, visiting cards and house key. It had also seized two scooters and a catapult.

India: Polling begins in 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 21 (PTI) Polling began Monday morning in 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana.

Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue till 6 p.m., officials said.

As many as 1,169 candidates including 105 women of various political outfits are contesting the election.

The prominent figures include Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, JJP's Dushyant Chautala and INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala.

India: Naxal terrorists accuse Maha man of being informer, shoot him dead

Gondia, Oct 21 (PTI) A 50-year-old man was gunned down by Naxals recently in Murkutdoh-I area of Salakesa tehsil in Maharashtra's Gondia district after they accused him of being a police informer, an official said on Monday.

He identified the deceased as Bhagchand Dhurve, and said preliminary probe has revealed that Naxals suspected he was an informer as police in the area often conducted welfare camps for people in front of his residence.

India: Stray cattle in Goa eating non-veg food, says minister

Panaji, Oct 21 (PTI) Stray cattle brought to a cow shelter in Goa are found to have turned non-vegetarian, state minister Michael Lobo has claimed.

The animals developed this habit by feasting on leftover chicken and fried fish dumped in garbage, he said.

"We brought 76 cattle from Calangute area to the gaushala where they are being looked after. We realised that they have turned non-vegetarian," Lobo said during a function at Arpora village in North Goa district on Sunday.

India: Maha polling starts, 5.64 pc voting in Mumbai in first 2 hrs

Mumbai, Oct 21 (PTI) Mumbai suburbs on Monday recorded 5.64 per cent polling in the first two hours as voting got underway for the 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra, an election official said.

Long queues were observed outside several polling stations, indicating the percentage may go up in subsequent hours, the official said.

Voting began at 7 am and will end at 6 pm.
