India: Three held from Surat for murder of UP Hindutva leader

Surat, Oct 19 (PTI) Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has nabbed three persons from Surat in connection with the killing of a former Hindu Mahasabha leader in Lucknow, officials said on Saturday.

Kamlesh Tiwari (45), leader of the lesser-known Hindu Samaj Party (HSP) who was earlier associated with a faction of the Hindu Mahasabha, was killed at his home in Khurshed Bagh under the Naka Hindola area in the Uttar Pradesh capital on Friday.

Delhi gets 100 new mohalla clinics

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday inaugurated 100 newly-constructed mohalla clinics, a primary health service aimed at providing medical facility to people in their neighbourhood.

With this, Delhi now has 302 mohalla clinics.

Speaking at an event in Wazirabad here, the chief minister said that next month, 100 more mohalla clinics will come up and the AAP government plans to set up such health facility on every kilometre in the city.

Afghans search for bodies after at least 69 killed in mosque explosions

KABUL (Reuters) - Police and local people searched on Saturday for more bodies in the rubble of a mosque in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province after bomb blasts in which at least 69 people were killed during Friday prayers.

The explosives were placed inside the mosque in Jawdara area of Haska Mena district.

Sohrab Qaderi, a member of Nangarhar’s provincial council, said the mosque, with capacity of more than 150 worshippers at a time, was full of people when the bombs exploded.

Security forces kill 2 militants, arrest 6 suspects near Afghan capital

KABUL, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Two Taliban militants were killed and six suspects arrested during a night raid operation in Afghanistan's eastern Wardak province, a statement said Saturday.

"The successful raid was launched by a Special Unit of National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Ghozba village, Jaghato district Friday night. The arrested people were handed over to a related department for questioning," NDS, the country national intelligence agency, said in the statement.

UN chief strongly condemns mosque attack

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Latest on mosque attack in eastern Afghanistan (all times local):

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is strongly condemning the attack inside a mosque during Friday prayers in eastern Afghanistan which killed scores of civilians and injured dozens more.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters at U.N. headquarters in New York on Friday that “those responsible for this attack must be held accountable.”

India: Students made to wear cardboard boxes to stop them cheating in exam

Haveri; 19 Oct 2019; (UMM): A private college in Karnataka made  students wear cardboard boxes during an exam to stop them from cheating. The bizarre incident took place at Bhagat Pre-University College of Haveri district.

The incident came to light when a member of the college management, Sateesh Herur, posted pictures of the students wearing the boxes on his Facebook account.

India: Students walk out of UP school to protest Head Master’s suspension

Pilibhit; 19 Oct 2019; (UMM): Around 30 students, none in uniform, walked out of the school premises protesting their Head Master’s suspension, raising slogans, “Desh ki Raksha kaun karega? Hum karenge (Who will protect the country? We will)”, and “Kaise karenge? Tann se karenge, mann se karenge, dhan se karenge (We will do it with our mind, our and body and our wealth).”
