India: RBI allows PMC customers to withdraw Rs 10,000

Mumbai, Sep 26 (PTI) In a relief to the harried customers of crisis-hit Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative Bank, the Reserve Bank Thursday increased the cash withdrawal limit to Rs 10,000 per account, which will help over 60 percent customers of the crippled lender.

The RBI had Tuesday imposed a slew of restrictions on the bank for six months, allowing withdrawal of only Rs 1,000 for the bank's depositors, leaving the customers, who are typically not from the well-heeled a worried lot.

Iran Ditches USD In Trade With Russia, Turkey

TEHRAN, Sept 26 (NNN-TASNIM) – Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Abdolnaser Hemmati, announced that, Iran is using national currencies and euro, in bilateral trade with Russia and Turkey.

Hemmati said that, Iran currently does not use U.S. dollar in its trade with Russia and Turkey, and “this trend is gradually removing the U.S. dollar from (Iran’s) trade cycle.”

Bangladesh’s Eastern Bank Set To Operate In China’s Guangzhou

DHAKA, Sept 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – Bangladesh’s leading Eastern Bank Limited (EBL), is all set to open its representative office in China’s Guangzhou province, according to the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ali Reza Iftekhar.

He said, the bank is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia with its sights set on Guangzhou, in China’s south, as the second largest world economy is an important market, with many development initiatives like Belt and Road Initiative and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Malaysia’s Leading Index Shows Brighter Economic Outlook Ahead: Data

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s leading index has signalled a brighter economic outlook in Nov, 2019, until Jan, 2020, according to official data released today (Wednesday).

Malaysian Statistics Department, said, the leading index that signals the direction of economic movements surged 1.4 percent to 119.3 points in July, from 117.6 points in the previous month, showing the economy will enter the expansion phase.

India: Coal Workers' total strike against government decision to allow 100% FDI in Coal Sector

New Delhi, Sept. 24; GANASHAKTI: The Coal Workers all over the Country struck work from the first shift on 24th September 2019 causing a drop in coal production of 2.13 MT and a loss of Rs. 4000 Crores.

The Coal Workers Federations had earlier urged the Central Government to withdraw their decision to allow 100% FDI in Coal Sector and to allow commercial coal mining.

They are so firm that they even refused to attend a meeting called by the Coal Minister on 19th September 2019. Their point is simple: the demand to scrap 100% FDI in Coal Sector is non-negotiable!

India: RBI imposes restrictions on PMC Bank; withdrawal restricted to Rs 1,000 per account

Mumbai, Sep 24 (PTI) The Reserve Bank on Tuesday imposed operational restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC Bank), resulting in chaos outside its branches in the financial capital.

As per the RBI directions to PMC Bank, withdrawals have been capped at Rs 1,000 per account and the bank is not allowed to make any fresh loans.

Malaysia: 5G trials going nationwide from October – Gobind

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The 5G trials launched in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya last April are to be expanded nationwide, with the 5G demonstration projects around the country set to begin next month, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today.

“It is hoped that Malaysia’s early commitment to 5G, to rapidly deploy 5G test beds and nationwide demonstration projects, will position the country  as one  of the leaders of 5G adoption in the world,” he said.

E-Cigarettes Capable Of Killing Lung Cells: Australian Study

CANBERRA, Sept 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Vapour from flavoured e-cigarettes can cause lung cells to die, an Australian study has found.

The study, published by the University of Adelaide and the Royal Adelaide Hospital recently, examined the toxicity of three different brands of liquid for e-cigarettes.

It found that even brands that do not contain nicotine can cause otherwise healthy airway epithelial cells to die. The vapour can also prevent the immune system from burying dead cells.
