KHARTOUM, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations mission in Sudan on Thursday called on the Sudanese authorities to resolve the current political crisis through peaceful consultations.

Volker Perthes, head of the UN Integrated Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), made the appeal during a meeting with Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the council said in a statement.

02 Feb 2022; MEMO: Support of Sudanese academics and elites for normalising ties with Israel has been diminishing due to Israel's support for leaders of the military coup, Sama news agency reported yesterday.

According to the news agency, Israel's public broadcaster, Kan, reported the latest developments in Sudan, noting a wide range of Sudanese started to blame Israel for the ongoing suppression of the anti-coup protests in the country.

KHARTOUM, Jan 30 (Reuters) - One protester was killed as security forces confronted thousands of people protesting against military rule in Sudan's capital Khartoum on Sunday, medics linked to the demonstrations said.

The 27-year-old, Mohamed Yousef Ismail, was hit in the chest, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD) said.

There was no immediate statement from the military rulers who have been trying to contain a series of protests across Sudan since they took power on Oct. 25.

KHARTOUM, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Renewed tribal violence near the western Sudanese city of El Geneina over the past week has displaced more than 15,000 people, the United Nations said.

The war-weary Darfur region has seen an increase in violence recently, humanitarian groups say, which analysts link to a peace deal signed in October 2020 that has led to some groups to jostle for power while not adequately addressing security concerns.

KHARTOUM, Jan 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The US Embassy in Khartoum said on Thursday that Washington would not resume its paused economic assistance to Sudan until violence there comes to an end and a civilian-led government is restored.

As part of broader international punitive measures, the US halted $700 million in emergency assistance since the military coup in October.

US Assistant Secretary of State Molly Phee and special envoy for the Horn of Africa David Satterfield held meetings with Sudanese civil society representatives on Wednesday and Thursday.

20 Jan 2022; MEMO: Israeli delegation arrived on Wednesday in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, Israeli media revealed, without giving more details about it.

According to Israeli public broadcaster, Kan, the delegation travelled on board a plane that took off from Israel on Wednesday morning and made a brief stop in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, before resuming its way to Sudan.

16 Jan 2022; MEMO: Sudanese authorities have revoked the license of the Doha-based Al Jazeera Mubasher TV, citing "unprofessional coverage" of developments in Sudan.

The Information Ministry said in a letter to the director of Al Jazeera television in Sudan on Saturday that the move was taken due to the channel's "unprofessional approach" and broadcast of media content that "harmed the country's higher interests and national security".

15 Jan 2022; MEMO: Sudan's Sovereign Council, on Thursday, hailed Turkey's supportive stance toward the country and its keenness to strengthen ties between Ankara and Khartoum, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The Council issued a statement saying its member, Ibrahim Jaber, met earlier in the day with Turkish Ambassador to Sudan, Irfan Neziroglu, and discussed developing and strengthening bilateral relations between their two countries.

14 Jan 2022; MEMO: The Sudanese security forces stormed on Thursday the office of Alaraby television in the capital Khartoum, and arrested several journalists and crew members.

The detained crew members had been covering pro-democracy demonstrations taking place on Thursday and over the past months in Sudan, demanding a return to civilian rule.

Reporter Wael Mohammed Alhassan, office supervisor Islam Saleh, camera operator Mazen Oono and his assistant Abu Baker Ali were all arrested during the raid.
