23 July 2020; MEMO: Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok announced long-awaited economic and political reforms on Wednesday aimed at rescuing the country’s economy and keeping its civilian transition on track after the ouster of Omar al-Bashir last year, Reuters reports.

21 July 2020; MEMO: Former Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and 16 others will appear before a special court of three judges in Khartoum today on charges of carrying out a coup against the elected government in 1989.

Moez Hadarah, part of the public prosecution, said: “The defendants are brought to trial under Article 96 of the 1983 Sudanese Criminal Code, which undermines constitutional order and Article 78 of the same Act, namely, participation in the criminal act.”

18 July 2020; MEMO: Thousands of Sudanese Islamic groups and supporters of ousted president Omer Al-Bashir staged a protest on Friday in the capital Khartoum against a new set of laws that have scrapped various Islamic laws, Anadolu Agency reports.

The anti-government protests, which erupted from numerous mosques following Friday prayers, accused the government of apostasy and urged people to bring down the administration of Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.

16 July 2020; MEMO: The Sudanese State of Law and Development Party revealed on Wednesday that a military intelligence force arrested the party leader, Mohamed Ali Al-Jazouli.

15 July 2020; MEMO: Sudan’s Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources said Tuesday that it submitted a “balanced and fair” draft agreement on the Nile dam to the African Union, reports Anadolu Agency.

“Sudan delivered its final report on the course of the Hidase Dam negotiations to the African Union’s current president, South Africa,” the ministry statement said, referring to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Blue Nile.

13 July 2020; MEMO: Sudan’s Transitional Government has announced plans to abolish punishment for apostasy and the ban on non-Muslims drinking alcohol in the country, Sudan Tribune has reported. The changes to the law will also make Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) a crime, explained Justice Minister Nasredeen Abdulbari.

KHARTOUM, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Talks between Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Nile River were resumed on Friday under the African Union mediation, Sudan's Irrigation and Water Resources Ministry announced.

"The talks between the three countries were resumed on Friday via video conference with mediators and monitors attending," said the ministry in a statement.

KHARTOUM, June 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — An international conference pledged to provide around 1.8 billion U.S. dollars to Sudan to help the northeast African country battle an economic crisis, a senior Sudanese official said.

Countries and international organizations participating in the Sudan Partnership Conference will provide a total of 1.8 billion dollars to finance the country’s transitional period, Sudan’s Information Minister Faisal Mohamed Saleh told reporters after the meeting.

24 June 2020; MEMO: Sudan repelled an Ethopian cross-border attack on Sunday, Anadolu Agency reported.

Governor of Sudan’s eastern Gadaref province, Major General Nasr Al-Deen Abd Al-Qayyum, said armed forces had “successfully fended off an attack by Ethiopian forces” on Sunday, reporting no fatalities.

07 June 2020; MEMO: An Israeli El Al Airlines airplane flying from Buenos Aires crossed through Sudan’s airspace on Thursday, the first commercial Israeli airliner to do so, according to The Times of Israel, as a potential indication of improving relations between Israel and Sudan.
