Saudi Arabia cancels Mossad leader's visit

05 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Saudi Arabia has abruptly cancelled the visit of an Israeli official last week, presumed to be the Mossad head. This came after Israel disclosed information about the secret meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, in the presence of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Neom, less than two weeks ago.

Israel asks its nuclear scientists to be cautious following Fakhrizadeh assassination

05 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Following the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Israeli security services have asked senior ex-nuclear scientists to take extra security measures throughout their daily lives, Israeli media reported on Friday.

Lebanon President Aoun approves compensation for victims of Beirut port blast

04 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Lebanese President Michel Aoun signed Law No. 196 on Thursday to grant financial compensation to the families of the victims of the Port of Beirut explosion.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) stated on Thursday that the legislation stipulates that those who were disabled due to injuries from the explosion shall also receive healthcare insurance from the National Social Security Fund and benefit from the provisions of the law on persons with disabilities.

Saudi investment fund seeks $7bn loan from international banks

04 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is seeking a loan of $5 to $7 billion from international banks for investment opportunities, according to Bloomberg.

The PIF obtained its first loan in September 2018 amounting to $11 billion, and another loan of $10 billion in 2019.

According to data from the PIF, the fund has assets of $347 billion.

Lebanon parliament speaker: 'Internal disputes hinder new government formation'

04 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the delay in the new government formation considering the massive crises facing the country.

Berri stressed that the issue is not related to external obstructions, but rather internal disputes over the file.

Syria: Displaced children run after rubbish truck scavenging for food

04 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Displaced Syrian children have resorted to sifting through rubbish to look for food in the liberated territories of north-west Syria due to a shortage of humanitarian aid.

In a video posted on Tuesday by the Syrian Network for Human Rights, children can be seen running behind a rubbish truck transporting waste to a local landfill area in the opposition-held province of Idlib. The drone footage then shows the children gathering around the household waste and searching for food.

UN condemns deadly attack on students in western Libya

TRIPOLI, Dec 4 (NNN-Xinhua) — The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Thursday condemned a deadly attack on school children in the city of Al Ajaylat, some 80 km west of the capital Tripoli.

“UNSMIL strongly condemns the brutal attack against children as they were leaving school in the city of Al Ajaylat, which led to the killing of a 16-year-old boy and injured two other children, all in their school uniforms,” UNSMIL said in a statement.
