Turkish lira slips as U.S. moves closer to sanctions over S-400s

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey’s lira briefly slipped on Friday after U.S. lawmakers included mandatory Turkish sanctions in a defence spending bill that moves Washington a step closer to punishing its NATO ally for buying Russian S-400 missile defences last year.

The final version of the $740 billion annual U.S. defence spending legislation would oblige the White House to select from a list of sanctions over the S-400s, which Washington says are incompatible with NATO operations.

Bahrain open to imports from Israeli settlements, Palestinians fume

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Bahrain’s imports from Israel will not be subject to distinctions between products made within Israel and those from settlements in occupied territory, the Bahraini trade minister said on Thursday, drawing a rebuke from the Palestinians.

Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates formalised ties with Israel on Sept. 15, in a U.S.-sponsored deal billed by the Gulf countries as being made possible by Israel’s shelving of a plan to annex West Bank settlements. Most world powers deem them illegal.

Iran's coronavirus cases exceed one million : health ministry

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran’s total cases of novel coronavirus hit 1 million on Thursday with 13,922 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said, as the Middle East’s worst-affected country’s death toll reached 49,348.

Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari told state TV that 358 people had died from the coronavirus since Wednesday and that confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection had reached 1,003,494.

Iran has introduced tougher restrictions to stem a third wave of coronavirus infections, including closing non-essential businesses and travel curbs.

Iran opens 5 solar power stations

Andimeshk, Dec 3, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated five solar power stations and four power distribution projects in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran, through video-conferencing.

President Rouhani officially inaugurated 25 energy projects in three Iranian provinces through video-conferencing Thursday.

The government has opened the projects all over the country in line with the guidelines of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Surge in Production for the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020).

Assassination of Iranian scientist “clear manifestation of state terrorism”: Envoy

Tehran, Dec 3, IRNA – Counselor at the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations on Palestine Mohammad Reza Sahraei said that the assassination of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is a criminal act and a clear manifestation of state terrorism aimed at jeopardizing international and regional peace, and needs to be strongly and immediately condemned by the international community.

Turkey-Senegal education, sports deals take effect

03 Dec 2020; AA:  Agreements in the fields of education and sports signed between Turkey and Senegal took effect after being published in Turkey's Official Gazette on Thursday.

The accords were signed on Jan. 28, are valid for five years and aim to further strengthen bilateral relations.

In education, Turkey and Senegal agreed to "expansion of cooperation and exchanges."

Israel transfers $1.14bn in tax revenues to PA

03 Dec 2020; MEMO:  The Israeli occupation authorities have transferred $1.14 billion in tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority (PA) on Wednesday, according to the Palestinian minister of civil affairs.

As stated by Anadolu Agency, Hussein Al-Sheikh posted on Twitter that Israel: "Transferred [to the PA] all the due tax revenues amounting to 3.76 billion shekels ($1.14 billion)."

Sudan will not normalise with Israel until removed from US terror list

02 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Sudan has apparently told the US that it will not normalise relations with Israel until Washington removes the African country from the list of states which "sponsor" terrorism, the New York Times has reported. The interim government in Khartoum is said to have marked the end of this year as the deadline to be taken off the list.
