U.S.-listed Chinese stocks bullish on Wall Street

NEW YORK, April 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese stocks are appealing to investors as Wall Street chases after companies that do business in an economy with sustained growth, an experienced trader at the New York Stock Exchange said Tuesday.

"Most people here in the United States are very interested in Chinese growth. It's been a story that's enamored U.S. investors for a long time," said Mark Otto, who has been trading Chinese stocks for more than a decade during his 25-year experience at the New York Stock Exchange, in an interview with Xinhua.

India: Complaint lodged against Farooq, Mehbooba at Bihar court

Bayer to cut 4,500 jobs in Germany

9 Apr 2019; DW: Pharmaceutical and agriculture giant Bayer confirmed on Tuesday that they would be slashing about 4,500 jobs in Germany, affecting 1 in 7 members of its workforce in the country.

The company had already announced in December that it would cut 12,000 jobs internationally. The number revealed on Tuesday indicated that its German workers, who had already protested the cuts last year, will bear the biggest brunt of the losses proportionally.

Indian Polls: Rahul Gandhi files nomination for Amethi

Amethi (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) With UPA president Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra by his side, Congress president Rahul Gandhi Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat at the Collectorate here.

Rahul was also accompanied by Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra and their two children to send a message that the entire family gives much importance to the Congress bastion, party leaders said.

Indian EC seeks report on PM's Balakot strike remarks

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) The Election Commission has taken cognizance of Prime Mnister Narendra Modi's remarks asking first-time voters to dedicate their vote to those who carried out the air strike in Balakot, and has sought a report from poll officials in Maharashtra.

Sources in the poll panel said Tuesday that the chief electoral officer of Maharashtra has been asked to submit a report at the earliest.

Indian EC bans Modi biopic during election period

New Delhi, Apr 10 (PTI) The Election Commission Wednesday banned the screening of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during poll period, saying any such film that subserves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media.

The EC order came a day before the movie was to be released.

The first phase of Lok Sabha elections starts Thursday.

Kashmir: Curfew continues for second day in Kishtwar

Jammu, April 10 (PTI) The curfew imposed in Kishtwar district following killing of senior RSS functionary Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO remained in force for the second day Wednesday even as police intensified searches to track down those involved in the killing.

The cremation of the RSS leader will take place later in the day in Kishtwar town amid heavy security.

Indian Polls: Campaigning ends for 8 western UP seats

Indian bishop charged with repeatedly raping nun

NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian authorities charged a Roman Catholic bishop on Tuesday with repeatedly raping a nun in her rural convent, a case that helped make the sexual abuse of nuns a major issue in the church.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal was charged with rape, illegal confinement and intimidation, said Hari Sankar, a district police chief in the southern state of Kerala, India’s Catholic heartland.

Pakistan issues 2,200 visas to Indians

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) The Pakistan High Commission Tuesday said it has issued visas to 2,200 Sikh pilgrims from India to facilitate their participation in the annual Baisakhi celebrations from April 12 to 21.

The issuance of visas by Pakistan is seen as signs of easing of tension between the two countries, and came nearly six weeks after the Balakot strike and subsequent Pakistani retaliation.
