India: Former BJP minister Lal Singh detained en route to Kishtwar

Bhaderwah/Jammu, Apr 10 (PTI) Dogra Swabhimaan Sangthan (DSS) chief and candidate for Jammu and Udhampur Lok Sabha seats, Choudhary Lal Singh, was Wednesday detained with supporters en route to Kishtwar, officials said.

The former minister was detained in Assar area of the Doda district, the officials said.

India: Man rapes, kills 5-yr-old cousin sister

Ghaziabad, Apr 9 (PTI) A man was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping and killing his five-year-old cousin sister here, police said.

The minor's body was recovered from a sugarcane field near Sarana village on Monday morning, police said.

The girl was abducted from Indira Puri Colony in Murad Nagar when she was playing outside of her home, they said.

India: 3 get 20-year jail for gang rape

Gurdaspur (Punjab), Apr 9 (PTI) A Punjab court sentenced three men to 20 years of imprisonment on Tuesday for raping a 25-year-old woman in Gurdaspur district five years ago and repeating the offence for over four months by blackmailing her with a video.

The sessions court sentenced Lovepreet Singh, Harvinder Singh and Prabhjot Singh to jail after they were found guilty. Two others, Gurpinder Singh and Balwinder Singh, were declared proclaimed offenders.

Iran president says US 'leader of world terrorism'

Tehran, Apr 9 (AFP/PTI) Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that the United States was the real "leader of world terrorism" after Washington blacklisted Iran's Revolutionary Guards as a "foreign terrorist organisation".

"Who are you to label revolutionary institutions as terrorists?" Rouhani asked in a speech broadcast live by state television.

WASHINGTON, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The United States on Monday designated Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a "foreign terrorist organization" (FTO), an unprecedented move that will further heighten U.S.-Iran tensions, and complicate the Middle East situation.

"This designation will be the first time that the United States has ever named a part of another government as an FTO," U.S. President Donald Trump said in a statement issued by the White House.

Chinese premier arrives in Brussels for China-EU leaders' meeting

Iran begins installation of IR6 centrifuges: report

TEHRAN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) started the installation of IR6 centrifuges on Tuesday, official IRNA news agency reported.

The installation of a chain of 20 advanced IR6 centrifuges began in the Natanz enrichment facility in central Iran, following a decree of President Hassan Rouhani, said the report.

"We are happy to announce the installation of the IR6 centrifuges. This will be a big achievement for the Iranian nation," Rouhani was quoted as saying at a video conference.

Russia, Turkey agree to boost bilateral investment

Shakeup at U.S. Department of Homeland Security raises concern

WASHINGTON, April 8 (Xinhua) -- A recent shakeup at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has raised concerns among lawmakers, including allies of U.S. President Donald Trump.

British PM forced to delay Brexit to avoid no-deal as MPs pass law

LONDON, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Proposals to force British Prime Minister Theresa May to delay the date of Brexit -- again -- on Monday were approved by both the House of Lords and House of Commons.

With just days to go before the Brexit deadline, April 12, the prime minister will now have to ask the European Union (EU) to extend Article 50 in order to avoid a no-deal Brexit.

The cross-party proposal was raced through the House of Commons in a single day last week and completed its journey through the House of Lords on Monday night.
