Brexit fallout could have impact on Italy's trade, unemployment

ROME, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Italy is likely to be forced to compensate for lower exports and perhaps even the return of thousands of mid-level and blue collar workers when Great Britain finally withdraws from the European Union.

The country had been expected to leave the European Union March 29. But the government secured an extension as the so-called "Brexit" negotiations stalled, with British lawmakers deciding which of four plans (or perhaps no plan at all) will be used to guide the first-ever departure of a nation from the European Union.

Indian Polls: EC issues notice to railways over PM Modi's picture

New Delhi, Apr 2; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The Election Commission Tuesday called the railways approach towards enforcing the model code of conduct "lackadaisical" after allegations that poll norms were violated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's picture on tickets and the slogan "Main Bhi Chowkidar" on tea cups.

The poll panel has issued a notice to the railways, asking it to submit a report by Thursday on the slogan on tea cups, so that it can take a call on whether it was a poll code violation.

A leading Punjab-based firm engaged in "up-armouring" or retrofitting vehicles to make them bulletproof and mine-protected has seen a spike in the orders over the past several months.

1 killed in chemical plant fire in U.S. state Texas

HOUSTON, April 2 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and at least two others injured after a heavy fire broke out Tuesday at a chemical plant in the U.S. state of Texas, and an investigation is underway, according to local authorities.

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Houston Region Office has dispatched emergency response personnel to conduct an initial assessment of the fire at a KMCO plant in Crosby, about 40 km northeast of Houston.

The company confirmed in a statement that "there have been injuries and one fatality."

India election body struggles with scale of fake information

SKorean ship detained for allegedly providing oil to NKorea

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean ship is being held at a domestic port over suspicions that it illegally provided oil to heavily sanctioned North Korea, officials said Wednesday.

The revelation comes amid growing concerns over wide-ranging efforts by North Korea to evade U.N. Security Council sanctions over its nuclear weapons and missiles program.

India: Rajdhani Express train hits cattle, delayed for 30 minutes

Kanpur: The train passengers had to face trouble owing to over running of a cattle against the engine of Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express near Fatehpur on Tuesday morning. On account of this accident there was effected technical fault in the engine. 

The train's driver informed of this mishap to the control room. The maintenance was done after the train arrived at CNB at about 6.30 a.m. It took half-an-hour in thorough  servicing the engine. After complete rectification the train left towards its onward journey for New Delhi. 

India: Teen girl raped in Banda

Banda (UP), Apr 3 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly raped by two Dalit youths at a village in Bisanda area here, police said Wednesday.

The incident took place on Monday when the 16-year-old girl was alone at her house. Pushpendra and Rajbahadur Kori entered the house and raped her, they said.

An FIR was registered against the two following a complaint by family members of the victim.

The accused were arrested Wednesday, police added.
