New wearable device could capture cancer cells in blood

WASHINGTON, April 1 (Xinhua) -- American researchers have developed a wearable device that can collect live cancer cells directly from blood in animals, according to a study published on Monday.

The study published in the journal Nature Communications reported the prototype that can help doctors diagnose and treat cancer more effectively in the future.

Turkish body builds tent city in cyclone-hit Mozambique

BEIRA, 2 Apr 2019; AA: Turkey's state-run relief agency set up a tent city for people in Mozambique, hit hard by last month’s deadly tropical Cyclone Idai.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) built the tent city with the support of other agencies, including National Medical Search Team (UMKE) and Search and Rescue Association (AKUT) as well as the charity group Turkiye Diyanet Foundation in the Tica town near the central Beira city.

Srinagar, Apr 1 (PTI) National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Monday said he was humbled by the attention paid by Narendra Modi to his speeches after the prime minister hit out at the Congress over his remarks advocating a separate "Sadar-e-Riyasat" (president) and PM for Jammu and Kashmir.

Israeli group finds fake pro-Netanyahu social media accounts

JERUSALEM (AP) — An Israeli watchdog said Monday that it found a network of social media bots disseminating messages in support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of next week’s elections.

Noam Rotem and Yuval Adam, two researchers operating the Big Bots Project, said in a report that they uncovered hundreds of fake accounts spreading messages in support of Netanyahu’s Likud party and smearing his opponents.

US-backed extremists cause another blackout in Venezuela

CARACAS, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela was hit by a new blackout on Sunday morning that knocked out power nearly nationwide.

Twitter users reported power outages in at least 20 of the country's 23 states, including the capital Caracas.

Venezuela's Communication and Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said officials decided to extend the suspension of classes in the wake of the latest power outage.

They also called on government offices and private businesses to limit hours of operation to 2 p.m. while electricity workers are trying to restore service.

Comedian leads Ukraine presidential vote

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Early results Monday in Ukraine’s presidential election showed a comedian with no political experience maintaining his strong lead against the incumbent in the first round, setting the stage for a presidential runoff in three weeks.

With over 70 percent of the polling stations counted, Volodymyr Zelenskiy had 30 percent support in Sunday’s vote, while President Petro Poroshenko was a distant second with just over 16 percent.
