Venezuela to boost gold production in spite of U.S. sanctions

CARACAS, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Friday that his administration will continue to boost the production of minerals, and gold in particular, in spite of sanctions imposed by the United States.

"Venezuela will never follow the orders of the U.S. empire and Venezuela will continue to produce gold," Maduro said, referring to the latest sanctions imposed by Washington on Venezuela.

Cricketer Imam's head injury overshadows Pakistan triumph

Abu Dhabi, Nov 10 (AFP) Pakistan beat New Zealand by six wickets in the second day-night international in Abu Dhabi on Friday but the match was overshadowed by a worrying injury to opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq who was taken to hospital after being hit on the head by a short ball.

Imam, on 16, was forced to retire after a short delivery from fast bowler Lockie Ferguson hit the grille of his helmet, making him dizzy before he fell to the ground.

His eyes were closed but he did not lose consciousness.

Congo ministry says Ebola outbreak worst in nation’s history

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — Congo’s latest Ebola outbreak is the worst in the country’s recorded history with 319 confirmed and probable cases, the health ministry said.

The deadly virus has killed about 198 people since the outbreak was declared Aug. 1 in the volatile east, the ministry said. Those dead include 163 confirmed Ebola cases, with 35 probable deaths. Nearly 100 people have survived Ebola.

This is Congo’s 10th outbreak since 1976, when the hemorrhagic fever was first identified in Yambuku, in the Equateur province, the ministry said.

According to the newspaper, the colonel attended NATO seminars through partnership programs and transferred data collected there to Russia. Austria is not part of the North Atlantic Alliance, and the country maintains a neutral status.

India's economic growth held back due to demonetisation, GST: Raghuram Rajan

Washington, Nov 10 (PTI) Demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) are the two major headwinds that held back India's economic growth last year, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has said, asserting that the current seven per cent growth rate is not enough to meet the country's needs.

Addressing an audience at the University of California in Berkley on Friday, Rajan said for four years -- 2012 to 2016 -- India was growing at a faster pace before it was hit by two major headwinds.

Hezbollah vows to retaliate for any Israeli attack

BEIRUT, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Saturday that his party will retaliate for any Israeli attack on Lebanon.

"We will inevitably respond to any attack against Lebanon and we will not accept any underestimation by the enemy of the country's power as it used to do in the past," he said in a televised speech marking the party's "Martyrs' Day."

Nasrallah said that "Hezbollah has a tremendous rocket capability and the enemy will not dare to attack Lebanon because of this power."

"Any attack will be faced automatically," he said.

India: Congress govt will disband Vyapam

Bhopal, Nov 10 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday promised to disband the Vyapam and refund the examination fees of the lakhs of youth who had appeared for the recruitment tests conducted by the scam-hit board in the last 10 years.

The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, popularly known by the acronym Vyapam (Vyavasayik Pareeksha Mandal), is at the centre of a massive recruitment scandal, involving bribery and fudging of marks among others, that is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Hundreds of migrants leave Mexico City headed for border

MEXICO CITY (AP) — About 900 Central American migrants headed out of Mexico City on Friday to embark on the longest and most dangerous leg of their journey to the U.S. border, while thousands more were waiting one more day at a massive improvised shelter.

The group that got a head start bundled their few possessions and started off, taking a subway to the north part of the city and then hiking down an expressway with a police escort.

Turkey's Erdogan shares Khashoggi tapes

10 Nov 2018; AFP: Turkey has shared recordings linked to the murder last month of journalist Jamal Khashoggi with Riyadh, Washington and other capitals, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday.

"We gave them the recordings, we gave them to Saudi Arabia, we gave them to Washington, to the Germans, to the French, to the British," he said in a televised speech.

"They listened to the conversations which took place here, they know," he said, but added that they were not accompanied by any written documents.

Iran urges global condemnation of U.S. sanctions

TEHRAN, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran's ambassador to the United Nations urged global condemnation of the recent U.S. unilateral sanctions against the Islamic republic, Press TV reported on Saturday.

"U.S. unilateral withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal and restoration of its sanctions on Iran is a challenge to the international law and global order," Gholamali Khoshroo said in a letter to the UN Security Council on Friday.

The global community "should not allow the United States to pursue its unilateral, arrogant and self-centered policy," he said.

Sri Lanka's ousted PM's party to challenge dissolution of parliament in court

COLOMBO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's party, the United National Party (UNP), said Saturday it would file a case in the Supreme Court against the early dissolution of parliament by President Maithripala Sirisena.

UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera told journalists in a media briefing here that the party would early next week file a challenge in the Supreme Court, calling the president's decision to dissolve parliament "illegal."
