China urged United States to stop "unwarranted slandering and accusations"

BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday urged the United States to stop "unwarranted slandering and accusations" and to put an end to words and deeds that undermine Sino-U.S. relations.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks at a daily news briefing when asked for further comment on the U.S. leader's recent allegations that China is "interfering in" the 2018 mid-term U.S. elections, just one day after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to China.

Five people on short list to replace Haley as UN ambassador: Trump

Washington, Oct 10 (PTI) US President Donald Trump has said he has five persons in mind, including his former deputy national security adviser Dina Powell, to replace Indian-American Nikki Haley as the US ambassador to the UN.

Haley, 46, announced Tuesday she would resign from her post as the US ambassador to the UN effective at the end of 2018.

Haley's abrupt decision left many in the White House in shock as there was no indication that she planned to leave office. Haley had submitted her resignation on October 3.

Trump says his daughter Ivanka would be dynamite at UN

Washington, Oct 10 (PTI) US President Donald Trump said he is certain that his daughter Ivanka would be "dynamite" as the US ambassador to the UN, but conceded that he would be "accused of nepotism" if he selected her to replace Indian-American Nikki Haley.

Haley, 46, announced Tuesday she would resign from her post as the US ambassador to the UN effective at the end of 2018.

As President Trump heaped praise on Haley's performance during her tenure as the the envoy to the world body, he said many people would like to replace her.

Russia to remain global oil industry leader in long term — Energy Minister

MILAN, October 9. /TASS/. Russia will remain the global oil industry leader over the long term, Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters on Tuesday.

"Russia is currently the leader of the global oil industry and will remain as such on a long-term horizon. Our strategy provides for maintaining oil production at the current level, even with a small increase," the minister said.

Nevertheless, Russia needs to undertake incentivizing measures currently discussed by the government to maintain oil production, Novak added.

China to sell 48 high-end armed drones to Pakistan

Beijing, Oct 9 :  China will sell 48 high-end armed drones to its "all-weather ally" Pakistan in what a military observer said will be the largest deal of its kind, official media here reported Tuesday.

The cost of the major defence deal was not revealed.

Wing Loong II is a high-end reconnaissance, strike and multi-role endurance unmanned aerial system, capable of being fitted with air-to-surface weapons.

It is roughly equivalent to the American MQ-9 Reaper drone.

Rafale deal: SC asks Centre to provide details of decision making process

New Delhi, Oct 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Centre to provide details of the decision making process in the Rafale fighter jet deal with France in a sealed cover but clarified that it does not want information on pricing and technical particulars.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph, also made it clear that it was not taking into account the allegations on corruption in the deal made in the petitions.

India: Total breakdown of law and order in UP

New Delhi, Oct 9 (PTI) Alleging a total breakdown in the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the women wing of the CPI(M) Tuesday condemned an attack on activists Pankhudi Pathak and Maria Alam "by Bajrang Dal members" in Aligarh.

The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) also alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Police was misusing its powers.

India: Man found dead, honour killing suspected

Karimnagar (Telangana), Oct 9 (PTI) In a suspected honour killing, a 23-year-old man was found dead in a cotton field on the outskirts of Vankayagudem village in Karimnagar district Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Gaddi Kumar of Tadikal village, police said.

Huzurabad Assistant Commissioner of Police T.Krupakar said the parents of Kumar had filed a complaint Monday stating that he was missing.

The parents alleged that he was in love with a minor girl belonging to another caste in the same village.

India: Expedite Naga peace talks: NPF

Kohima, Oct 10 (PTI) The opposition Naga Peoples Front (NPF) has appealed to Naga national workers and the Centre to expedite the Naga peace talks and bring it to a logical conclusion.

The appeal was made as part of the resolution of the NPFs 3rd Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting at Kohima on Tuesday.

The NPF also urged Naga national groups who have not joined the peace process to reconsider their decisions in the interest of the Naga people.

Kejriwal asks PM to apologise after IT Dept raids premises of Gahlot

New Delhi, Oct 10 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise to people for "constantly troubling" the Delhi government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday said following the Income Tax Department raids on premises linked to his minister Kailash Gahlot.

The Income Tax Department (ITD) conducted searches this morning on multiple premises linked to Gahlot, the Delhi Transport minister, in connection with an alleged tax evasion case, officials said.

Gujarat govt should quit: Sharad Yadav

New Delhi, Oct 9 (PTI) Terming the exodus of migrants from Gujarat "alarming", opposition leader Sharad Yadav Tuesday demanded that the state government quit over its "failure" in protecting citizens.

"It is an alarming exodus of workers from Bihar, UP and Madhya Pradesh. They are workers who have been serving the people of Gujarat for years," he said in a statement.

Bangladesh sentences 19 to death, 19 to life over 2004 deadly grenade blasts

DHAKA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Bangladesh court sentenced 19 people to death on Wednesday, including two former ministers, over a case of grenade attacks at now Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's rally in 2004 that killed at least 24 people.

Another 19 people including former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's son Tarique Rahman, the current opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman, were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The sentence also included jail terms for 11 others.
