Odisha farmer commits suicide "under debt-burden"

Jajpur (Odisha), Oct 8 (PTI) A farmer allegedly committed suicide on Monday in Odisha's Jajpur district with his family claiming that he was under stress due to debt burden, police said.

Sisir Khatua (38) was found hanging from a beam in his house at Digambarpur village under the jurisdiction of Dharamsala police station.

His family members took him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, Inspector In-Charge of Dharamsala police station Umakanta Nayak said.

BSP, SP will be in grand alliance for LS poll: Moily

Indian tourist among 2 people killed in shootout in Thailand

Bangkok, Oct 8; PTI: A 42-year-old Indian was among two foreign tourists killed and five others, including two Indians, seriously injured in a shootout between two rival gangs here, Thai Police said Monday.

The shooting took place last night on a street behind Centara Watergate Pavillion hotel in Ratchathewi district, where tourist coaches were parked, 'Bangkok Post' reported.

Gakhrejr Dheeraj, an Indian, and Keovongsa Thonekeo, 28, a Lao tourist, died at a hospital where other injured are undergoing treatment.

The #MeToo storm has intensified in the country with more women recounting their experiences of sexual harassment in the entertainment and media industry.

Turkey asks to search Saudi consulate in missing journalist case

NASA probe on brink of solar system detects cosmic ray increase

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- American space agency NASA's probe, on a way to interstellar space, detected an increase in cosmic rays that originated outside the solar system, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab.

Voyager 2, launched in 1977, is about 17.7 billion kilometers from Earth, more than 118 times the distance from Earth to the Sun. And it will become the second human-made object, after Voyager 1, to enter interstellar space after it exits the heliosphere.

American scientists awarded 2018 Prize in Economic Sciences

Finance chief vows public won’t face ‘restrictions’ by moves to wean Russia off dollar
