China's accumulated outbound direct investment ranks second worldwide in 2017

BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's accumulated outbound direct investment (ODI) reached over 1.8 trillion U.S. dollars by the end of 2017, moving up to the second place in the world rankings, according to an official report.

"China has made investment in 189 countries and regions globally, with its accumulated ODI accounting for 5.9 percent of the world's total," said Zhang Xingfu, an official with the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

Pro-Russian party, populists top Latvia vote

7 Oct 2018; AFP: The pro-Kremlin Harmony party won Latvia's general election ahead of populists who may help it form a coalition, final results showed Sunday, after a vote tarnished by a hackers' attack on the country's top social network.

Harmony topped Saturday's vote with 19.91 percent of the vote ahead of two populist parties, KPV LV with 14.06 percent and the New Conservative Party with 13.6 percent.

5,000 believed missing in two hard-hit Indonesian quake zones

Jakarta, Oct 7; GANASHAKTI: As many as 5,000 people are believed missing from two hard-hit areas in Palu more than a week after the Indonesian city was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami, an official said Sunday.

Indonesia's disaster agency said the figure was based on estimates from local heads in the Petobo and Balaroa areas of the city, where entire neighbourhoods disappeared in the twin disaster on Sulawesi island that has seen 1,763 bodies recovered so far.

Russia allocates over $60mln to fight Ebola in Africa

RHODES, October 6. /TASS/. Russia has allocated more than $60 million to fight Ebola in Western Africa, Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov said in his address to a session of the World Public Forum - Dialogue of Civilizations.

Currently, Moscow is actively assisting Africans in healthcare and medicine, he said.

"Russia has donated a total of $100 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria," said Bogdanov, who is also a deputy foreign minister.

Gujarat exhodous - UP, MP and Bihar migrants fleeing – fearing rape backlash

Hindi-speaking migrants are fleeing Gujarat after Gujarati mobs started attacking non-Gujaratis following alleged rape of a 14-month old girl.

Non-Guratis, mainly from UP, Bihar and Madya Pradesh have crowded the bus-stations waiting for buses which will take them to their native states.

Some landlords have also asked them to vacate their premises and leave.

Plea in SC to bring office of UP Chief Minister under Lokayukta law

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Uttar Pradesh government to amend the law to bring the office of Chief Minister under the purview of state ombudsman, Lokayukta.

The plea said that the existing status of the 'Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, 1975' does not make the ombudsman "powerful enough to serve the purpose and object for which it was enacted".

India: Petrol, diesel prices on the rise again

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) Within a day of the one-off excise duty cut and PSUs subsidising fuel, petrol and diesel prices are on the rise again and have hit a three week high.

Petrol and diesel prices were cut by a minimum Rs 2.50 on October 5 when the government's only second cut in excise duty of Rs 1.50 per litre and state-owned fuel retailers providing a Re 1 per litre subsidy came into effect. In BJP-ruled states, the reduction was higher as they matched the cut with a similar reduction local sales tax or VAT.

Turkish military dispatches 2 aid aircraft to Indonesia

6 Oct 2018; AA: The Turkish army has dispatched two aircraft to transport aid sent to disaster-hit Indonesia, the army said on Saturday.

In a Twitter post, the Turkish Armed Forces said that on Friday two C-130 transport aircraft would transfer Turkish Red Crescent aid in order to meet the needs of people affected by the earthquake in Indonesia.

On Sept. 28, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Sulawesi Island, which triggered a tsunami that towered up to 10 feet (3 meters) high.

AAP predicts hung Assembly in Telangana

Hyderabad, Oct 7 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has predicted a hung Assembly in the coming Telangana polls with no single party getting a majority, while promising a "Delhi model" government as its poll plank in the southern state.

AAP in-charge of the southern states and Delhi MLA Somnath Bharti claimed that an "unspoken anti-incumbency" prevailed against the K Chandrasekhar Rao government in poll-bound Telangana.
