BJP MLA refused to pay toll – his supporters beat toll workers

Madhya Pradesh, Shivepuri: BJP MLA and ex-party President of the state Nandkumar Singh Chauhan refused to pay toll tax and smashed the workers for asking toll charges.

According to Punjab Kesari, Chauhan and his supporters’ cars were passing through the toll booth at Shivepuri on Agra-Mumbai national highway, when toll workers stopped their cars and requested them to pay the toll charges.

Pakistan opposition leader Shahbaz sent to 10-day NAB remand in Rs 1,400 cr housing scam

Lahore, Oct 6; PTI: An anti-corruption court in Pakistan on Saturday granted a 10-day remand of opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif to the country's top anti-graft body in a Rs 1,400 crore housing scam, the latest setback to the embattled Sharif family.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which arrested the PML-N president on Friday, had sought a 15-day remand to investigate his alleged involvement in the multi-billion rupees corruption case.

Shahbaz, 67, is the younger brother of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, 68, who is facing corruption charges in three cases.

EC announces dates for Assembly polls in five states

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday announced the dates for the Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram Assembly polls.

While Chhattisgarh will go to the polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, the Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Assembly elections will be held on November 28.

Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on December 7, announced Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) OP Rawat.

Russia, India seal deal on supply of S-400 air defense systems

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Moscow and New Delhi have signed a contract on the supply of S-400 air defense systems to India.

"Yes, on the sidelines of the visit [of Vladimir Putin to India]," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked if the S-400 contract had been concluded.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov earlier told the media that as a result of the deal "India will have a modern air defense system boasting parameters that surpass those of similar systems of other countries."

Wind turbines contribute to climate change: study

Researchers from Harvard University found that powering the entire United States with wind energy would cause a 0.54 degree Celsius ground temperature rise in the area where the turbines were located, and a 0.24C increase across the continental United States.

Iran vows to overcome U.S. sanctions after termination of amity treaty

TEHRAN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed on Thursday that Iran will overcome U.S. economic sanctions against the country.
