SANAA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Houthi militia in Yemen launched a drone attack on government forces in the southern province of Shabwa on Wednesday, wounding at least four soldiers, a local military source said.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Houthis used a bomb-laden drone to attack a military checkpoint near the complex of the 1st Brigade in the Al-Musina'a area in the southern part of Shabwa.

There were no immediate comments from the Houthi group, which rarely discloses its operations.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Clashes between suspected al-Qaida militants and Yemen’s pro-government forces in the country’s south killed three men Saturday, a military official and tribal leaders said.

The fighting broke out Saturday evening when militants thought to be al-Qaida members attacked the United Arab Emirates-backed Shabwa Defense Forces near the town of al-Musnaiya in southern Shabwa province with machine guns, two tribal leaders and a military official said. The three spoke on condition of anonymity.

SANAA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Yemeni government forces shot down two Houthi drones in the central province of Marib on Saturday, according to Yemen TV.

The drones were intercepted and shot down while flying towards army positions in the western part of the province, the national public television said, citing a statement from the army.

The Houthi group has yet to comment on the incident.

SANAA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains in Yemen resulted in the collapse of a house on Wednesday, causing the death of a child and injuring two others, reported the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.

The tragedy occurred in the al-Jumaimah district in the northwestern governorate of Hajjah.

Heavy rains have been pounding many parts of Yemen since the start of the summer season in April, leading to widespread floods that significantly damaged infrastructure, including old houses, dams, and farms.

SANAA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Despite the efforts of the United Nations and its partners, the problem of food insecurity in Yemen remains a severe threat, warned a UN official on Thursday.

David Gressly, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, said that 17 million people in Yemen are still grappling with food insecurity, as revealed by a recent report from the UN food agency, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the UN Children's Fund.

ADEN, May 20 (NNN-YPA) – Eight people were killed and at least 15 others wounded, in clashes between tribal gunmen, in Yemen’s north-eastern oil-rich province of Marib, a government official said, yesterday.

Ferocious clashes erupted Thursday night and continued into yesterday morning, between gunmen from the Al Munif and Al Fahih tribes, in the Al Wadi district of Marib, the local government official said, on condition of anonymity.

SANAA, May 16 (NNN-YPA) – A total of 392 Yemeni citizens were evacuated from Sudan and safely returned home in the past 24 hours, Yemen’s state TV station reported, yesterday.

The country’s national carrier, Yemenia, operated two flights to facilitate their repatriation. The first flight, carrying 197 citizens, arrived in the southern port city of Aden on Sunday. The second flight, with 195 passengers on board, landed in the Houthi-held capital of Sanaa, later on Sunday night.

ADEN, Yemen, May 5 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb exploded next to a military ambulance in Yemen's southern province of Abyan on Friday, killing two soldiers and wounding three others, a security official told Xinhua.

The local official asked to remain anonymous said the ambulance was blasted by the homemade bomb when it was transporting soldiers of Yemeni government forces who were wounded in sporadic fighting with al-Qaida militants.

SANAA, May 1 (NNN-YPA) – Four people were killed in Yemen yesterday, after the collapse of a water dam in the Al Mahwit governorate, about 111 km west of the capital, Sanaa.

Local authorities confirmed that the Al-Aqabi Dam, in the Hafash district of Al Mahwit governorate, had collapsed, causing a flood that swept away a mosque with four people inside, killing all of them.

The flood also damaged nearby houses.

The governorate has been under the control of the Houthi group since 2014.
