ADEN, Aug 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Forces loyal to Yemen’s government have re-entered the southern city of Aden, which they lost to previously allied separatists earlier this month.

Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said troops and militiamen had taken full control of the city after securing the airport and presidential palace.

But a separatist militia commander said it was still in control of most areas.

The fighting has exposed a rift within the Saudi-led coalition supporting the government in Yemen’s civil war.

29 August 2019; AFP: The Yemen government said it seized back the interim capital Aden on Wednesday, a claim contested by the separatists who took control of the city and other parts of the south earlier this month.

The tussle between the pro-independence Southern Transitional Council (STC) and government troops comes nearly three weeks after the separatists took control of Aden, the government's base since Huthi rebels took over the northern capital Sanaa in 2014.

SANAA, Yemen, Aug 26 (NNN-SABA) – Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed that they fired 10 missiles towards Saudi Arabia’s Jizan airport on Sunday evening, the group’s military spokesman said.

A salvo of 10 Badr-1 ballistic missiles were launched towards Jizan Regional Airport, said Yahya Sarea, in a brief statement.

“The missiles targeted military aircraft and Apache helicopters inside Jizan airport,” he added.

ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's internationally-recognized government on Thursday held a crisis meeting in Saudi Arabia's capital of Riyadh to follow up the escalating situation in the country's southern part.

A government official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity saying that "all the government's members attended a crisis meeting chaired by Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik and discussed ways to confront the armed rebellion in the southern port city of Aden."

19 Aug 2019; MEMO: The Houthis in Yemen announced the appointment of an “ambassador of the Republic of Yemen” in Tehran, a move that the internationally recognised Yemeni government considered as “a flagrant violation” of international laws. Tehran has not made any official comment on the issue of accepting the ambassador representing the unrecognised Houthi authority on its territory.

ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Troops belonging to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) demanding the secession of southern Yemeni regions withdrew on Saturday from a number of government institutions in the port city of Aden after a week of seizure.

According to Aden-based officials, the withdrawal of the STC forces from Yemeni government institutions, including the Central Bank of Yemen and the cabinet headquarters, as well as from the judicial compound in the strategic port city, came after successful mediation efforts conducted by the Saudi-led coalition.

16 Aug 2019; MEMO: The Yemeni government has demanded the withdrawal of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces from the areas they controlled in Aden, south of Yemen, before engaging in any dialogue.

This came according to a tweet by the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

Yemen’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Hadrami, said that the Yemeni government welcomed Saudi Arabia’s call for “a meeting to stand up to the coup in Aden.”

11 August 2019; AFP: A Saudi-led coalition launched Sunday a strike against southern separatists in Yemen after they seized the presidential palace in second city Aden in deadly fighting that threatened to deepen the country's humanitarian crisis.

The seizure, decried by the Riyadh-backed Yemeni government as a UAE-supported coup, reflects deep divisions between secessionists and loyalist forces, both of whom have fought Shiite Huthi rebels.

SANA’A, Aug 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Secessionists who are seeking independence for southern Yemen on Saturday seized the presidential palace in Aden from forces of the Saudi-backed government and tightened control of the southern port city, local sources and media said.

Since Wednesday, fighting has raged in Aden between government troops and separatists.

Aden became the country’s temporary seat of government after Iran-linked Houthi rebels overran the capital Sana’a in late 2014.

ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) managed on Saturday to seize Yemen's presidential palace following four days of intense fighting in the southern port city of Aden, a security official told Xinhua.

The local official, who asked to remain anonymous, said that "heavy armed forces of the STC entered the presidential palace in Aden's neighborhood of Crater without armed confrontations and fully captured the area."
