India: Bombay court issues fresh NBW against Dr Zakir Naik

A special court has issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik in an alleged money laundering case.

According to PTI, the warrant was issued by Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court judge PP Rajvaidya on a plea filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which is probing the case. The ED has claimed to have identified Rs 193.06 crore as the proceeds of money laundering in the 2016 case.

India: One-year RI for teacher who molested 13-year-old student

Mumbai, Sep 18 (PTI) A special court here on Wednesday sentenced a school teacher to rigorous imprisonment for one year for molesting a 13-year-old girl student in 2017.

Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court judge M H More convicted the accused Nandkumar Shinde under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and relevant provisions the POCSO Act, 2012.

India: We have to hug each Kashmiri, create new paradise: Modi

Nashik, Sep 19 (PTI) Blaming the Congress for the plight of Kashmiris for decades, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for "hugging each Kashmiri and creating a "new paradise" in the valley.

Launching the BJP's poll campaign for the next month's Maharashtra Assembly elections, Modi said a lot of efforts are being made from across the border to foment violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have to create a new paradise (in Kashmir)... hug each Kashmiri," he said.

India: Cong, NCP to contest 125 seats each in Assembly polls: Pawar

Mumbai, Sep 16 (PTI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress will contest 125 seats each in next month's Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said on Monday.

Pawar announced that the seat-sharing pact between the grand old party and his 20-year-old organisation has been finalised.

As per the arrangement, 38 seats will be left for allies to contest, he tweeted. Maharashtra Assembly has 288 seats.

India: Two Naxal terrorists killed in encounter in Maha

Nagpur, Sep 15 (PTI) Two Naxals were killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Sunday morning, a police official said.

The gun-battle took place in Narkasa forest area, located around 170 km from here, when commandos of C-60, a specialised anti-Naxal unit of Maharashtra police, were combing the area, he said.

India: 2 held for gang-rape of 25-year-old woman in Thane

Thane, Sep 13 (PTI) Two people have been arrested in Bhiwandi in Thane district for allegedly gang-raping a 25- year-old woman, police said on Friday.

The incident happened on September 11 in the bushes close to Bhiwandi railway station, a Narpoli police station official said.

"The crime was carried out by four people. Two have been held while the other two are on the run," he added.

India: BJP has offered Sena 106 seats in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Sep 12 (PTI) The BJP has offered 106 seats to its main alliance partner Shiv Sena for the next month's Maharashtra Assembly polls, but the latter is not likely to accept less than 120 seats, a source said on Thursday.

The seat-sharing talks between the two parties are likely to conclude in a day or two, a BJP source said here.

The Assembly has a total of 288 seats. Last time the two parties had fought the elections separately.

Indian Woman (38) pregnant for 20th time in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Sep 9 (PTI) In a rare occurrence, a woman from Maharashtra has become pregnant for the 20th time, doctors said on Monday.

The 38-year-old woman from Beed district, who has had 16 successful deliveries and three abortions so far, is now seven months' pregnant, doctors said.

Each time, she delivered a single child and five of them died within a few hours or days of delivery, while 11 have survived, doctors said.
