India: 30 flights cancelled at Mumbai airport, 118 delayed

Mumbai, Sep 5 (PTI) Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) here were affected for the second day with cancellation of 30 flights and another 118 getting delayed on Thursday.

As per a live flight-tracking website, 14 incoming and 16 outbound flights were cancelled on Thursday. In addition, 118 flights were delayed, including 86 departure.

In a brief statement, Mumbai International Airport Airport Ltd (MIAL) said that "operations are normal".

India: Sensex sinks 770 pts on deepening economic woes

Mumbai, Sep 3 (PTI) Market benchmark Sensex crashed about 770 points on Tuesday due to broad-based panick selloffs as dismal GDP print, weak core sector growth and disappointing auto sale numbers pointed to deepening economic crisis.

Likewise, the NSE Nifty tanked over 225 points to dip below the 10,800-mark.

Massive selloffs in equities saw investor wealth eroding by Rs 2.55 lakh crore.

India: Death of gangrape victim in Maha: FIR against cop for 'inaction'

Mumbai, Sep 1 (PTI) AnvFIR has been registered against a police inspector in Mumbai for "inaction" in the case of allegedrape of a 19-year-old woman who later died at a hospital, police said on Sunday.

The woman, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste as per her lawyer, was allegedly raped by four of her friends in Mumbai in the first week of July. She was later admitted to a state-run hospital in Maharashtra's Aurangabad city where she died on August 28.

India: 20 killed in explosion at Maharashtra chemical factory

MUMBAI, August 31; GANASHAKTI: At least 20 persons died and 50 others injured in a major explosion followed by fire at a chemical factory in Maharashtra`s Dhule district on Saturday morning. Several rescue personnel and police officers complained of dizziness and retching following a chemical leak at the accident site. As plumes of black hazardous smoke engulfed the area, the police fastened the process of shifting locals far from the site.

India: man held for raping 7-year-old girl in Maha

Thane, Aug 30 (PTI) A Thane resident was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl after luring her home with chocolates, an official said on Friday.

The child's parents had gone to work and she was playing near her house on Thursday afternoon when Santosh Shinde (43) took her to his place on the pretext of giving chocolates and raped her, Senior Inspector Jitendra Rathod said.

"When her parents returned home in the evening, they found the child frightened. When asked, she narrated the ordeal," he said.

India: Donkey worshipped in Maharashtra

Akola, Aug 31 (PTI) While the festival of 'Pola' is dedicated to bulls in Maharashtra, people from certain communities in Akola district worship donkeys on that day.

Farmers in Maharashtra worship bulls and oxen on the occasion of 'Pola', also called as 'Bail Pola', as a mark of gratitude for their year-long hard work for farming. The festival was celebrated on August 30 this year.

Similarly, people from the Bhoi and Kumbhar (potter) communities worship donkeys as a mark of gratitude and respect, said community member Vishnu Chore.

India: Man gets life term for raping four-year-old girl

Palghar, Aug 30 (PTI) A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court here for kidnapping and raping a four-year-old girl in 2017.

Special Judge A U Kadam also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the accused, Ghanashyam Gupta, a resident of Vasai here in Maharashtra.

The judge recently convicted Gupta under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code.

India: Alliance with AIMIM will remain intact: Ambedkar

Akola, Aug 28 (PTI) Amid reports that differences are cropping up between the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) constituents ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) leader Prakash Ambedkar on Wednesday said the alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi-led MIM will continue.

The VBA, comprising the BBM and the Hyderabad-based All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together. The VBA had won one seat in Maharashtra.

Satara, Aug 28 (PTI) Those who lack the spunk and might to fight are switching allegiance to the ruling parties, NCP leader Jayant Patil said here on Wednesday amid talk of local NCP MP Udayanraje Bhosale being on the way to the BJP.

Bhosale's cousin Shivendrasinh Bhosale recently resigned as NCP MLA and joined the BJP.
