India: ITI Nagpur students to learn to assemble Rafale jets

Nagpur, Aug 27 (PTI) Students ofthe Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here in Maharashtra are all set to get a chance to learn how to assemble and fit body parts of the Rafale and Falcon aircraft, an official said on Tuesday.

The France-based Dassault Aviation, manufacturer of Rafale fighter jets, signed an agreement with the government- run ITI Nagpur last month for starting an 'Aeronautical Structure and Equipment Fitter' course at the institute.

india: Serial molester arrested in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 26 (PTI) A 35-year-old man, who allegedly molested minor girls on multiple occasions in Mumbai, has been arrested, a police official said on Monday.

Sachin Anant Shama, a resident of Bhatwadi area in suburban Ghatkopar, used to lure the girls by offering them chocolates and ice cream, he said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and nabbed him from Ghatkopar last Thursday, he said.

Indian Rupee slips 42 paise to US$ 72.08

India: AAP to contest upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party will contest the Maharashtra Assembly polls likely to be held in September-October as the state was reeling under failure and systematic collapse, its national joint secretary Ruben Mascarenhas said on Friday.

He claimed the party was foraying into the poll battle to save the "distressed" people of the state.

India: Rupee crashes to 8-mth low of 71.81 against USD

Mumbai, Aug 22 (PTI) The Indian rupee on Thursday plunged to an over eight-month low of 71.81, dropping 26 paise against the US dollar as tumbling equities and incessant foreign fund outflows weighed on sentiment.

Also, the sudden drop in Chinese yuan led to increased volatility in emerging market currencies, including the rupee, forex dealers said.

India: Unhappy over second girl child, woman kills husband in Maha

Palghar, Aug 22 (PTI) A 33-year-old woman from Nalasopara in Palghar district allegedly stabbed her husband to death as she was unhappy over the birth of their second girl child, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place at their residence in Gala Nagar early on Wednesday, police said.

The accused, Pranali Sunil Kadam, was arrested late Wednesday night for killing her 36-year-old husband, Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said.

India: Nagpur witnesses three killings in five hours

Nagpur, Aug 22 (PTI)Three separate cases of murder including a suspected contract killing were reported in Nagpur city in the space of five hours, police said on Thursday.

Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra, is the hometown of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also handles the home portfolio.

India: Undeclared Emergency more visible now: Munde

Mumbai, Aug 22 (PTI) NCP leader Dhananjay Munde on Thursday alleged that an "undeclared Emergency" has become more apparent in the country now with the summoning of MNS chief Raj Thackeray by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering probe.

He further alleged that the ED summoned Thackeray, a bitter critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, to "silence him" ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, due in September-October.

India: Over 7,000 ordnance factories workers on strike, production at complete halt

Pune, August 20; GANASHAKTI: More than 7,000 workers from three key Defence manufacturing units in Pune went on a strike from Tuesday morning, bringing production to a complete halt. The agitation is part of a nationwide month-long strike of over 82,000 ordnance workers from 41 factories, against the proposed ‘corporatisation’ of the factories by the government.

India: Veteran music composer Khayyam passes away at 92

Mumbai, Aug 19 (PTI) Veteran composer Khayyam, best known for his music in classic films such as 'Umrao Jaan' and 'Kabhi Kabhie', passed away after a prolonged illnesses at a hospital here on Monday.

He was 92.

Mohammed Zahur Hashmi, popularly known as Khayyam, was admitted to Sujay Hospital in suburban Juhu a few days ago owing to breathing issues and other age-related illnesses.
