India: 224 unfit govt vehicles running on road in Kanpur

Kanpur: As many as 224 government vehicles are marked unfit in the city. About 70 percent of the vehicles are running in the police department while several vehicles of the PWD are also moving without a fitness test on the road.

According to the record of the regional transport department, the fitness test of about ten vehicles registered in the name of ADGP has not taken place in eleven years. These vehicles were not brought for fitness test after March 2010. Likewise more than one hundred vehicles in the police department are running without the fitness test.

India: KDA to use remote sensing application to scan unfair edifices

Kanpur: The Kanpur Development Authority will use a remote sensing application to check illegal constructions and verify properties.

A meeting to this effect was held with the KDA officials and the scientist Kapil Saini here. With the help of the images received through the Indian Cartosaf Satellite of the science and technology ministry, it will be able to initiate supervision.

The meeting also discussed how to bring into use the technology in the identification of the KDA's all types of assets and also to  bring the imaging for the digital layout.

India: Three held in e-rickshaw driver's thrashing case in Kanpur

Kanpur: The police plunged into action after a video of Hindutva goons thrashing a Muslim e-rickshaw driver  surfaced on social media, where the mob can be seen forcing the man to chant Jai Shree Ram.

Several teams were formed to identify and nab the culprits, and police was quick to arrest three of the goons.

A dharna was staged outside the DCP office here on Thursday night.

The accused are aged between 25 and 30 years. They are said to be residents of the Barra area in the city.

India: No Tazia procession allowed during Muharram in Kanpur

Kanpur: Neither the procession nor Tazia will be taken out during the first ten days of the month of Muharram. Even Tazia will not be kept on public places. No permission was given even to bury the Tazia at the Imambara.

This was made clear by the administrative officers in a meeting held here. 

In the majlis, the participation of only 50 persons is allowed. Tazia can be allowed at the houses.

Assuring the district magistrate Alok Tiwari the Muslim religious heads said the procession would not be taken out.

India: UP Cong mass contact programme from Aug 19

Lucknow, Aug 12 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Congress will launch a mass contact programme from August 19 to cover the state's 30,000 villages and wards where party leaders will stay for over three days under the drive.

State party chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said around 90 lakh people will be contacted under the drive, being launched on the directions of party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

India: Teenager abducted, raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Aug 11 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a youth in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

The accused has been nabbed and the girl sent for medical examination, they said.

The girl, belonging to a village in Aurai police station area, had left her home to buy something on July 20 but did not return home till late in the evening.

Husband asks police to pick his wife's body in Kanpur Dehat district

Kanpur: Was it a dowry death as the father claimed? Was the husband in a fit of anger  killed his wife after heated arguments? 

According to the reports, a man killed his wife with a spade in Kanpur Dehat district. It was later he approached the police station to tell the police to pick her body.

Bhognipur Circle Officer said the accused Ram Kumar, a street vendor came to the police station to ask the police to collect his 23-year-old wife Uma's body from the house.

India: Christians demand land for graveyard in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Aug 11 (PTI) Scores of members and functionaries of the 'Ghaziabad Christian Fellowship Voice of Community' on Wednesday handed over a memorandum addressed to the municipal commissioner demanding land for graveyard.

The members, under the aegis of Chakrapani Yadav, the national general secretary of Pragtisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) stated in the memorandum that the bodies of Christians are being ferried to Delhi for burial for want of land in the district.

India: Habit of going to market lessens owing to cash crunch

Kanpur: Moving on the road from Nai Chungi to the Lal Bangla of the Jajmau area, there wasn't much crowd of the usual shoppers. It used to be abundantly intensed in the evening hours but the scene on Wednesday was different. 

Not much traffic either as the vehicles were passing effortlessly on the clear road.

Was it due to rainy days? One responded that it was not so. Since the people did not have adequate money with them, they are avoiding going to the market.

When their pockets are empty so the shops look not to be overcrowded. 

India: Retired police inspector arrested for raping minor in UP

Kanpur (UP), Aug 10 (PTI) A retired police inspector has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl here, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Sunday when retired inspector, Dinesh Chandra Tripathi, who hails from Prayagraj, was watching television with his tenant's 13-year-old daughter at his house in Friends Colony, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anoop Singh said.
