India: Villagers thrash sub-inspector in UP's Basti

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 19 (PTI) A sub-inspector posted in UP's Basti district was allegedly held hostage and beaten up by people when he went to Ooji village to meet a woman, police said on Thursday.

The sub-inspector has been suspended on villagers' allegations, who alleged that he opened fire when stopped by them, according to an official.

India: Kanpur Metro operator training gears pace at COET, Lucknow

Kanpur: The station controller-cum-train operators are being trained at COET, a prominent metro simulator training centre,  in Lucknow.

It is equipped with all the applicable and updated technical gadgets. This thorough training requires a practice of train operation for 400 Kms on a simulator.

This training will help them procure a 'Competency Certificate.'  

This training is important to conduct the trial runs of the elevated Priority Corridor, running from IIT-Kanpur to Motijheel, scheduled for November 2021.

India: English should not be parameter for advanced technical knowledge

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur has set up the Shivani Centre for the benefit of candidates across the country.

Reportedly, the IIT will flag off the project in a time-bound manner, with focus on strategic interventions.

This will include preparatory material, indexing of objectives, translation of courses into Hindi and OILs along with the development of relevant software and technological tools.

India: Woman abducted, raped by 4 in UP's Sultanpur

Sultanpur (UP), Aug 19 (PTI) A woman was allegedly raped by four men and later thrown out of a vehicle in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Dostpur area, police said on Thursday.

The woman, aged about 25 years, was found by villagers in an unconscious state on Tuesday late night, Dostpur Station House Officer Sayed Niyazi said.

Police had admitted the woman to a hospital.

She later told police that she is a resident Ambedkar Nagar and was raped by Ravindra, Kavindra, Dharmendra and Pankaj.

India: Two boys detained for minor girl's rape in UP

Bulandshahr, Aug 19 (PTI) police here detained two minor boys for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

The incident had taken place on August 17 evening in the Arniya area here, according to police.

A man complained to police that his niece was raped by the boys, aged 13 and 14, when she was going to a toilet.

India: Hit by animal, train movements disrupt near Jhijhak station

Kanpur: The movement of the Mahabodhi Express was disrupted following its nearly crash with an animal near Jhijhak-Ambiyapur railway station on Wednesday late at night in Kanpur Dehat district.

According to the news, the train was moving towards Kanpur from Delhi. As the train was hit by the animal, seven pillars of the overhead cable line were badly damaged in the sudden incident, railways officials said while learning of the occurrence. About half a dozen trains were thus stopped.

India: Survey shows Yadav votes tilt towards cycle

Kanpur: In a recent questionnaire by a popular agency Asianet News Mood of the Voters survey, which was conducted by Jan Ki Baat, it has been found that 70 per cent of the Yadav favour Akhilesh-led Samajwadi Party while only 18 per cent back the ruling BJP.

As is the case in other regions, here to non-Yadav OBCs (64%) stand with the BJP and 27 per cent come with the Samajwadi Party.

In Kanpur-Bundelkhand region, it becomes evident that Yadavs are backing cycle.

India: Temple priest thrashed in UP for sexually harassing girl

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 18 (PTI) A priest of a temple was thrashed by people for allegedly sexually harassing a girl in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday when family members of the girl accused the priest of misconduct and beat him up, they said.

Police said they are investigating the matter.

However, the priest has denied the allegations.

India: UP govt presents supplementary budget of Rs 7,302 cr

Lucknow, Aug 18 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday presented a supplementary budget of Rs 7,301.52 crore in the state Legislative Assembly for financial year 2021-22 to meet additional expenditure.

The supplementary budget was presented by Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Khanna said the supplementary budget is very small and should be passed without any discussion.

India: 15-year-old rape victim gives birth to dead child in UP

Ballia (UP), Aug 16 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl, who was raped multiple times by a man, gave birth to his dead child, police said Monday, adding the accused has been detained.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajkaran Naiyar said Gopal Patel has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for raping the minor on multiple occasions.

The girl gave birth to a dead child on July 27, her father said in the complaint.
