India: Woman raped & thrashed by brother in law in Kanpur

Kanpur: A widowed woman was raped and thrashed by her brother-in-law at a locality here a few days ago. 

According to the news reports, she approached the police station to file a complaint with the police but she was pressurised to make a compromise.

It is after such an outcome she decided to approach a higher rank police officer under whose direction a complaint was registered instantly.

When she came to the house her brother in law beat her mercilessly; even his sisters cooperated in beating the victim whose husband had died due to coronavirus a fews days ago.

India: 5-year-old girl raped in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 4 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in this Uttar Pradesh district on Wednesday, police said.

According to a complaint from the victim's father, the accused took the girl to a religious place in Charthaval village by luring her with candies and raped her.

A case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was lodged against accused Uvesh, who was arrested, police said.

India: IIT to set up centre for climate solutions in Kanpur

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology  Kanpur will establish the 'Chandrakanta Kesavan Centre for Energy Policy and Climate Solutions.

It will help policymakers and technologists with practical solutions to the problems of climate change.

An agreement to set up the centre was signed on July 15 between IIT Kanpur and Sudhakar Kesavan, an alumnus of 1976 batch from IIT Kanpur.

The Centre is named in memory of his mother Dr Chandrakanta Kesavan. She received her PhD in Acoustical Physics from Allahabad University in the year1942.

India: SP to take out 'cycle yatras' across UP

Lucknow, Aug 3 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party will take out "cycle yatras" across Uttar Pradesh on August 5 against the Centre and state government.

The party on its Twitter handle said its chief Akhilesh Yadav will in Lucknow lead the protest, which is being held over issues of price rise, unemployment, farm laws, crime and jail to SP leader Azam Khan.

The party will take out a "cycle yatra" at the tehsil-level in all districts on Thursday, the birth anniversary of SP leader Janeshwar Mishra.

India: Mayawati demands strict action in Dalit girl rape, murder case

Lucknow, Aug 4 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Wednesday demanded strict action against the culprits in the alleged rape and murder case of a nine-year-old Dalit girl in southwest Delhi.

"The brutal murder of a nine-year-old Dalit girl after rape and then burning her body in Nagal village of Delhi Cantt is very sad and shameful. BSP demands strict action against the culprits and necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Two booked for sexually harassing minor girl in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 4 (PTI) Two youths were booked for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Monti and Sumit, they said.

The girl's father alleged in his complaint that Monti and Sumit sexually harassed his daughter while she was returning home from a shop in her village under Gharipukhta police station area, the police said.

India: Man killed in group clash in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 4 (PTI) A 60-year-old man was killed in a clash between two groups over some minor dispute in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the groups clashed at Khudda village in Chapar police station area of the district on Tuesday.

Shokat Ali suffered injuries in the clash. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police have registered a case against four people who are on the run.

India: 16-year-old girl abducted by occultist in UP's Ballia

Ballia, Jul 31 (PTI) A case has been registered against an occultist for allegedly abducting a 16-year-old girl from an area under the Revti police station here in Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Saturday.

Revti Station House Officer (SHO) Yadvendra Pandey said that the girl had gone to Abhijeet Upadhyay alias Joga Baba on June 29.

Following a complaint from the girl's father on Friday night, a case was registered against the occultist, he said.

A search is on to arrest Upadhyay, the SHO said.

India: Three arrested for rape of minor in UP's Kaushambi

Kaushambi (UP), Aug 1 (PTI) Three people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the rape of a minor girl in the Pipri police station area here, officials said.

The victim, aged 15-16, had gone to the fields in her village on Saturday evening when the accused jumped her, they said.

One of them raped her, while the other two kept watch and assisted him, Additional Superintendent of Police Samar Bahadur Singh said.

The girl has been sent for a medical examination, he added.
