India: UP govt allots Rs 2,000 cr for Jewar airport in budget

Noida (UP), Feb 18 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday allotted a fund of Rs 2,000 crore for the Jewar Airport in Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The announcement was made during the budget presentation by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

India: Infrastructure push for Ayodhya in UP budget

Lucknow, Feb 18 (PTI) With an aim to develop Ayodhya as a tourist attraction, the Uttar Pradesh government in its budget for 2020-21 has made a special provision of Rs 500 crore for an airport in the city.

Apart from it, the state government will spend Rs 85 crore on the development of a high-class infrastructure in the pilgrim city.

India: Man, parents get 10 years in jail for killing wife over dowry dispute in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 15 (PTI) A local court has sent a man and his parents to jail for 10 years for killing his wife over dowry dispute.

Also a fine of Rs 35,000 was imposed on each of the convicts -- Nikhil, his father Madanlal and mother Vimlesh.

According to the prosecution, Sikha was strangled to death by her in-laws over dowry dispute at Gyanamajra village in Shamli district in 2016. She was married to Nikhil in 2013.

India: Kanpur Madarsa teachers crave for honorarium

Kanpur: The Madarsa teachers appointed to teach subjects like mathematics and science were living in a state of utter penury. Their unpaid honorarium for the past 48 long months is a solid reason for their poor position. As many as 227 teachers of a total of 90 Madarsa in the city have not received the amounts fixed for them. 

India: We remain firm on decisions on CAA despite pressure: PM

Varanasi (UP), Feb 16 (PTI) Ruling out a rethink on decisions on CAA and Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that his government remains and will remain firm on the steps, which have been taken in national interest, despite pressure from all sides.

"Be it the scrapping of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir or the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the country waited for decisions on these for years," he told a public meeting here during a day-long visit to his Lok Sabha constituency.

India: Jeweller shot inside shop during daylight robbery in UP

Noida (UP), Feb 13 (PTI) In a daylight robbery, three armed men barged into a jewellery shop in the city on Thursday and decamped with valuables after injuring the shop owner with gunshots, police said.

The incident took place around 12.45 pm and the accused had come to the shop in the posh Sector 12, under Sector 24 police station, riding on two motorcycles, the police said.

India: NSA slapped against Dr Kafeel Khan

Lucknow, Feb 14 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh police has slapped the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against doctor Kafeel Khan, who is in jail for allegedly making a speech at the Aligarh Muslim University against the new citizenship law.

"NSA has been slapped on Dr Kafeel. He will remain in jail," Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akash Kulhari to PTI over phone.

Kanpur: Strangely enough valentine's day got a mention in the lecture of a maulana delivered prior to the usual Arabic Khutba at a mosque on the congregational prayer of Friday. 

What he meant to emphasise at the old mosque here was that the faithful should instruct the girls to wear a proper dress and also to keep them distant from unethical recreations.

Dwelling upon the origin of this day he pointed out that it was in no way benefitting the society. There was no use in blindly following Western traditions.
