India: Ganga bridge to have huge display board on Jajmau side

KANPUR:  It is yet another beautification of the city side of Ganga bridge on Kanpur-Lucknow highway in Jajmau. It has been finally proposed.

A huge sized display board about the city's historical and the geographical information will be installed on the space suitable for the purpose of it.

Considering it an extremely significant and informative board the District Magistrate has directed the officials to show complete authentic information about the city.

He also instructed them to make proper greenery around the Jajmau entry point of the bridge.

India: UP cop taken into custody after girl alleges molestation

Mau (UP), Feb 24 (PTI) An Uttar Pradesh police jawan has been taken into custody for allegedly molesting a girl in Mau district, police said on Monday.

According to Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya, a student of Class VI has alleged that the jawan, who stay in the neighbourhood, had gone to buy some items from a nearby shop in Sarailakhansi when she was molested.

India: KBA advocates told to bring I-card on voting day

KANPUR: As elections of Kanpur Bar Association approaches fast the members were urged to bring their I-Card bearing certificate number of place & practice on the voting day declared on March 3, this year. The UP Bar Council has issued the Certificate of place practice to the advocates.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Elders Committee held under presidents of A G Khan.

In the meeting, it was also told that candidates should better remove posters and banners from the court campus.

India: 17-yr-old girl gang-raped in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 24 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men in a house in the Sikheda police station area here, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday, following which a case was registered against the three accused and one of them arrested, they said.

India: SP, Congress members stage walkout from UP Assembly

Lucknow, Feb 24 (PTI) Samajwadi Party and Congress members staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday over the issue of baton charge on women protestors in Aligarh.

Soon after the House met at 11 am, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chowdhury of the Samajwadi Party raised the issue and alleged that women were lathi-charged and tear gas shells were fired during anti-CAA protests in Aligarh on Sunday.

India: Sunni Board to build mosque, hospital on five-acre site

Lucknow, Feb 24 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board on Monday said it will build a mosque as well as an Indo-Islamic research centre, a hospital and a library on the five-acre plot allotted to it following the Supreme Court's Ayodhya verdict.

The decision to accept the land was taken at a board meeting here.

KANPUR: Cold weather prevails as clouds pervade up above the blue sky. Monday's minimum temperature remains at 14 degrees Celsius.

Weather experts mark the reasons behind cold weather to yesterday's snowfall and rains in hilly regions of the state of Uttarakhand.

On account of clouds there persists weak Sun rays thereby halting let up in chilly conditions.

India: Woman SI alleges rape by police inspector in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Feb 23 (PTI) A woman sub-inspector has lodged a complaint in Miranpur town here that she was raped by a police inspector on the pretext of marriage.

She has been taken for a medical examination and a case was registered against Inspector Sandeep Chouhan on Saturday, SHO H N Singh said, adding that an inquiry is underway.

India: AAP eyeing UP polls after thumping victory in Delhi

Lucknow, Feb 23 (PTI) After registering a thumping victory in the Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party is eying the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled in 2022 and said that it will seek votes in the name of Delhi's development model.

AAP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh claimed that the BJP's "Gujarat model" was nothing compared to his party's Delhi development model.

He said workers will reach out to the people in UP and tell them about party's development agenda and schemes.

India: Dr Kafeel Khan's maternal uncle shot dead in UP

Gorakhpur (UP), Feb 23 (PTI) The maternal uncle of Dr Kafeel Khan, who was recently arrested for allegedly making inflammatory statements during anti-CAA protests, was shot dead in front of his house at Bankatichak in Rajghat area here, police said on Sunday.

Dr Nusratullah Warsi aka Dada (55), a property dealer, was shot dead on Saturday night at about 10:45 pm and an FIR against two people was filed in this connection on a written complaint of his family members.
