India: Bhim Army chief to join SBSP-led front: Party leader

Lucknow, Mar 2 (PTI) Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad will join an Opposition front led by Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party president O P Rajbhar, a party leader claimed, amid a meeting between the Dalit outfit leader and the former Uttar Pradesh minister in Lucknow on Monday.

Aazad, who is popularly known as Ravan, will become a part of the Bhagidaari Sankalp Morcha, a front of eight political parties, SBSP general secretary Arvind Rajbhar told PTI.

Jajmau shops also frequented by female & child beggars

KANPUR: As we most frequently find the women and children asking for one, three more coins from the people turning up at the mall on Bada Chauraha, so we encounter with similar sort of beggars imploring for money in a very humble manner around the shops in Jajmau area.

These self-styled beggars have developed a habit of posing themselves as destitute. The little children appearing so apt in the practice that the soft-hearted persons cannot restraint themselves in paying some amount of money to them.

India: Women protesters vacate anti-CAA protest site in Aligarh

Aligarh, Mar 1 (PTI) Scores of women who were holding a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on the Jiwangarh bypass road here for the past six days vacated the site in the presence of top district officials.

Barricades which were put up on the road in view of the protest were removed on Saturday night and traffic resumed, bringing relief to commuters.

India: Jajmau tanneries face another spell of closure

Kanpur: What annoys tannery owners in Jajmau is the closure order of their industries against the damage detected in the common header of the line carrying treated water from Common Effluent Treatment Plant and Sewage Treatment Plant to an irrigation canal.

Though, it has also been learnt that the work on a deep sewer line goes through Pyondi village in Jajmau area for over a fortnight. Sooner it will be rectified, the tanneries will start operating.

The tanneries will be opened after repairing of the damaged line,  it was also learnt.

India: Mayawati wants SC-supervised probe into Delhi violence

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday demanded a Supreme Court-supervised probe into the communal violence in parts of northeast Delhi and said that the Centre and the AAP government should pitch in together to compensate people for the loss suffered in the riots.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said police should be given a free hand to control the law and order situation in the national capital.

India: Abdullah Azam Khan disqualified from UP Assembly

Lucknow, Feb 27 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday disqualified Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan from the membership of the House and declared his Suar seat in Rampur district as vacant.

Since the Allahabad High Court had set aside the election of Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan, son of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, he has been disqualified as member from that date -- December 16, 2019, a notification issued by the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat said.

India: Minor girl raped by youth in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Feb 26 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old man in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said.

The girl had gone to a nearby shop to get vegetables when she was waylaid by the youth in Tigri village under Kotwali police station limits on Tuesday, they said.

India: Azam Khan, wife, son sent to judicial custody for allegedly faking son's birth certificate.

Lucknow, Feb 26 (PTI) Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan, his legislator wife Tanzin Fatima and MLA son Abdullah Azam were on Wednesday sent to judicial custody for allegedly faking Abdullah's birth certificate.

They have been sent to judicial custody till March 2," Rampur Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra told PTI.

The case relates to a forged birth certificate for Azam's son. Abdullah had faced allegations that he gave a wrong date of birth when he filed his nomination papers for the assembly elections.
