India: Man kills wife over dowry in UP's Azamgarh

Azamgarh (UP), Feb 7 (PTI) A man allegedly killed his wife over dowry in Uttar Pradesh's Kaithishankarpur village, police said on Friday.

Pragya was shot dead by Deepak on Thursday after an argument over her dowry, they said.

Deepak was arrested along with his father and mother, police said.

He was harassing Pragya for dowry since their marriage in 2017, the woman's family members have alleged.

India: HAL inks pact with Israeli firm to develop UAV

Lucknow, Feb 5 (PTI) An MoU was signed between HAL and Israel's Elbit Systems during the DefExpo-2020 on Wednesday to assess the feasibility of joint development of an unmanned aerial vehicle.

The MoU is aimed at assessing the feasibility of a joint development of a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV for maritime and land-based military operations, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said in a release.

India: Dalit outfit launches postcard campaign against CAA, NPR

Gorakhpur, Feb 5 (PTI) A lesser known Dalit outfit, Purvanchal Sena, has launched a postcard campaign against the CAA and the NRC.

The outfit has urged people to send postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek the withdrawal of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act.

India: Stones pelted at UP bus with Ravish Kumar on board

Gorakhpur (UP), Feb 5 (PTI) Unidentified people pelted stones at a UP government bus, injuring a passenger, police said here on Wednesday.

Ramon Magsaysay award-winning journalist Ravish Kumar was among those on the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus that was attacked while passing through the Kusmhi jungle area on Tuesday night.

India: Shun tobacco to save mouth from cancer

Kanpur: Mouth cancer is one deadly indication of various cancers. On World Cancer Day, Prof AK Dixit pointed out that thirty percent of cancer sufferers were seen suffering from deadly mouth cancer. Tobacco happens to be the main cause of mouth cancer. 

He was addressing the gathering of the dignitaries attending an important programme organised at Kanpur University here on Wednesday.

Prominent academicians were invited to the occasion. Earlier, the university registrar opened the programme.

India: Mentally unstable girl sexually assaulted by youth in UP

Fatehpur (UP), Feb 5 (PTI) A youth allegedly tried to rape a mentally unstable teenage girl in a village in Aung area here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Monday when the girl, about 14-years-old, was alone in her house and the youth who had come to attend a marriage in the village allegedly tried to rape her, police said.

India: PM inaugurates DefExpo in Lucknow

Lucknow, Feb 5 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the DefExpo, India's biennial military exhibition that seeks to showcase the potential of the country to become a global defence manufacturing hub.

Delegates from 70 countries and 172 foreign military manufacturers will attend the five-day mega exhibition, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said. As many as 856 Indian defence firms will also showcase their products at the event.

India: IIT-K holds special interest group meet

Kanpur: Speaking at Special Interest Group meeting organized at IIT here, Prof M Agrawal, deputy director, of the Institute defined its important role as a knowledge partner in the Bundelkhand Defence Corridor project. He also asked for fresh inventions in the defence sector.

More than 40 projects related with defence are continuing presently at the institute here. 

As the IIT-K & Technopark@iitk jointly organized the meet, its in charge Prof Avinash Agarwal invited industries to establish the R & D branches in Technopark@iitk.
